Game Thread Orange Bowl: tOSU vs Clemson, Jan 3, 8:30 ET, ESPN

The worst part for me personally is my bi-annual trip to SC.Now i have to endure some sawwed off little chubby fuck talk about "Clumson" football while he adjusts his sweat stained visor. It like they clone those fucks down there. This is like winning the Superbowl to them.

Our WR are never open..no seperation..our OL is Physical as hell but have trouble with speed and active LBs We have a Power I line playing a spread O. This team was better suited to Woodys O with Corny Greene than the spread. Wilson must improve he missed the block on the Miller fumble..he makes that block, Miller hits Hyde on the wheel route again.

That Clemson was significantly more talented than us at the skill positions.

I don't buy that. They had the best player on the field, Watkins, but their depth at WR, TE, RB's, etc. was not more talented than OSU.

What they did do was game plan defensively perfectly - Venables was the game MVP imo. That DL and their 2 LB's (Shuey & Anthony) knew all of Braxton's impulses, his reads, his instincts....was super impressed with their front 7 but not based from a talent perspective so much as scheme. Not gonna lie, I wish we had him.

Every WR they had were miles better than ours, their LB's were better, their DE's were Better..their DT's were better..

One play..muffed punt. We were up 9, a 20pts unanswered and were dominating, and the muffed punt turned the entire game around.

The last 3 games, the stats are totally inflated. We were killed on screen passes. That's it. We stop a few screens here and there and the whole end of the season is different. We were the better team, IMO, but one play really turned this game around.
Things did turn there, but Philly has been an adventure back there all year. Not a surprise that the fumble happened - it's apparently who we are or were because in spite if all the misadventures back there, they never replaced him.

The statement made though was about the skill positions; is Boyd significantly better than Miller? Whoever their RB is better than Hyde? Watkins is the best player on the field but I won't buy into it that their WR set as a whole is significantly better than ours. Are they better? If I had to pick, yes I'd pick Clemson, but the point he was conveying was that there is a large leap in talent which I feel is a gross exaggeration based on the end result.

If OSU scores on that last possession, no one is pushing this 'OSU is vastly undertalented' and one possession isn't going to make me do a 180* on where we are.

Say what we will about the Vest's boring style and how it infuriated us - however we never had to deal with those type of turnovers with any sort of frequency. Save for one near disasterous game against Sparty in 05'. Even if he didn't have a dynamic return man, Tressel would have someone who could cleanly field a fair catch.

The fact is, that's a situation where you don't necessarily look for game breaking plays. You just look to get the ball back to your offense without question. Having anyone back there that you don't have complete confidence in to hang onto that ball is simply a poor, poor personnel decision.

We were in punt safe ..you ran up to catch the ball..every punt before that was not returnable..FAIR CATCH the DAMN BALL..we didnt need the big play then. BE FOOTBALL SMART. A lot of our players are not FOOTBALL SMART.

I agree with this. I actually put this more on the coaches--OSU so had the momentum on its side that you'd think the ST coach would've pulled Philly aside and said, "We're up 9 late in the 3rd, we're imposing our will on Clemson with our offense, and we're about to get the ball in phenomenal field position. All I want you to do is make sure we get the ball here, so take a fair catch."
