Online college football sim

I got 5 scholarship players and two w/o scholarships. The 5 I signed were rated all A and B players, though I don't understand those rankings as most don't look like anything but DC type recruits....

maybe the SIM is telling me they WILL be good down the line?!?

Only landed three, but I only needed five. In desperate need of a QB now and dumping everything I have in to getting one in the second round. I plan on sinking about 20 points each into two QB's offering PT and schollies.

Okay - so my plan was to stick at NIU for awhile and make them into a powerhouse Tier2 before leaving, but all the fun seems to be in the Tier 1 schools. Soooooo - I've decided to do a one and done at Tier 2. Only these teams are open....
Atlantic Coast
Boston Col
N Carolina St
Duke

Big East
Connecticut
Syracuse
W Virginia

Big Ten
Illinois
Wisconsin

Big Twelve
Baylor
Texas Tech

Pacific Twelve
Oregon St
Arizona
Utah

Southeastern
S Carolina
Vanderbilt
Mississippi

Indep-Tier I
No teams available

I'm trying to figure out a few things and get your thoughts - 1. Should I move into the team with the highest prestige? These number seems to be the biggest factor for recruiting so would make sense to pick the highest one and work my way down the list.

2. Should I also consider if they have a lot of open scholarships currently? Some of the schools on that list have 21, 12 and 11 scholarships available right now!

3. Should I pick the conference that is the weakest to give myself the best shot at getting better quicker? Seems the Big 10 and ACC or maybe SEC are the toughest but I know that can by cyclical. Big East and Big 12/Pac 10 seem to be weaker.

4. It'd be nice to go somewhere that had some high end, but young talent, not just superstars that are Sr's and Jr's. Though for the long haul I'm not sure it matters.

I'm thinking take the higher prestige and anything else they have would be gravy. But heck to go into some of these programs that were 0 fer this year...I might be screwed for the next 10 years. I think Arizona is taken for by the looks of a press release but the others should be up for grabs. And what happens if all 3 teams I list are given to someone else? How do they determine who gets a team if 3 guys all want it?

and finally - I'm not sure I could go into the ACC anywhere cause then I think your help/assistance and coaching/mentoring will dry up quick!! ;-) (and I've still got about a thousand questions.... haha)

1. Prestige doesn't need to be your only consideration, but you can probably speed up the rebuilding process by ruling out the very lowest teams, basically any below 12. Keep in mind current prestige hasn't factored in this season yet, but also that your solid
coach rating could add a point or two.

2. Available scholarships are nice, since it's that many more spots that Bob didn't lock up with bad recruits. But then that means you start without much depth, and having fewer open spots lets you spend more on recruits to maybe get a head start at your program.

3. Conference strength is definitely a big factor: the power conferences (ACC/Big10) have entrenched programs that will take time to overcome, especially in recruitign. PAC is another tough one, especially with Arizona's former coach coming back up from Army. Big East is improving but still has opportunities, while the Big 12 is pathetic, beyond Kansas it's pretty wide open.

4. Agreed. I look for a program that has a nice mix of veterans who can help right now, but also good prospects that will help you in the coming years.

With Arizona out, my top choice would be West Virginia, seems to have a nice mix, lots of young starters and some solid prospects being redshirted. I actually think they have more upside than even Texas Tech, which has good prestige but isn't built as much for the long term right now. Oregon State also has a nice young QB/TB duo which helps since those can be hard to recruit, but not a lot of depth otherwise. South Carolina could be a good choice too, keep in mind you won't be bound by the former coach's PT promises.

So for me, I'd go WV-TexTech-SCar. I don't know who all is promoting this season, but you've got a good record/rating and could get a tiebreaker if someone else wants the same teams. If your 3 picks end up getting taken, the commish will get back in touch with you to work something out.

Good luck!

What about recruiting? Seems like a couple conferences are in the same region which makes it twice as hard to recruit no? A few are the only tier 1 in their region and that has got to help unless there are that many more recruits in the doubled up regions.

I have Miami. I can't get a QB better than DD with throwing massive points and PtP at him. Thus I'll never win more than 3 games a year. I've pretty much stopped giving a shit about CCEL and CEL. The old guard makes it impossible to be even mildly successful.

I think You have to get a little lucky. QBs and OL are freakin impossible to recruit I think anywhere u are. That sucks. U gotta hit the walk on jackpot I think or get a bunch of QBs to walkon and hope one hits the training camp jackpot and goes from DD to CB or something.
