Ongoing NCAA Stat Rankings Thread (merged)

Turnover margin is the only area that jumps out as a real problem that needs to be addressed. And the last 2 games have been better in that area.

It doesn't say a whole lot for our conference when its best pass defense (Ohio State) is only 38th in the country.

Another way of looking at that is how effective the QB's in the Big-10 are.

Stanton, Basanez, Smith, Tate all rate very high. And Henne, Robinson, Stocco, and Cupito aren't bad. Stocco and Cupito benefit greatly from their running games.

A lot of good, experienced QB's will damage the defensive pass rating.

I was looking at stats this morning and couldn't help but notice the similarity between the Bucks and LSU. Observe...

Ohio State
BCS Rank: 8
Offensive YPG: 401.23
Offensive PPG: 31.67
Defensive YPG: 280.22
Defensive PPG: 15.0
Turnovers Forced: 10
Turnovers Committed: 16

LSU
BCS Rank: 7
Offensive YPG: 401.05
Offensive PPG: 31.75
Defensive YPG: 295.75
Defensive PPG: 13.9
Turnovers Forced: 10
Turnovers Committed: 16

What does this mean??? I don't know, but I thought the cooincidence was worth the post.

LSU has one less defeat than we do. But that may change this weekend.

strange similarity indeed. But there is a huge discrepancy in class between the teams. Jamarcus Russell smacked his opponent before he did his trademark "I'm a big tough guy who can beat his chest" move

A great defensive performance moved the team up to #5 in both scoring and total defense.

We probably won't go to number 1 in rushing defense next week; but it would be great if we did - we'd have to hold scUM to about 60 yards on the ground.

And on Nov. 25th Colorado plays Nebraska, who can't run a lick anymore. But if they beat Nebraska, a rematch against Texas in the Big-12 Championship game should really hurt their average.

Actually, it was the Bama guy that got Russell's attention, I would assume to tell him good game or something, and the two kind of slapped each other rather than shake or hug. Agreed he could've timed the chest thump thing better.

I know Osbourne went PC last week and came out with tacit support for Callahan- but my lord how things have changed in Nebraska.

After a top-10 recruiting class and a full season under his belt you would have thought the Huskers could come out and get good productivity from its backfield. Either those recruits Callhan brought in are not as good as was claimed, or Callahan is desperately inept at drawing up schemes and calling plays. Or both.

Colorado will in all likelihood beat Nebraska and have to face the Horns in the title game. Once again the "cowboy" program from the Big12 North can dream of playing the role of upsetter - dream on. Young alone could demolish the slim statistical advantage the Buffs hold over Ohio State in Rushing D.
