I ran into one on the golf course. He was about 30yds ahead of me so being as smart as I am I dropped a ball and tried to skull it right at it but it went about 3 feet over the skunks head. Funny thing is I line up for my next shot and shank it right next to the skunk.

In college, walking home from computer lab at about midnight, I walked right up to one before realizing what it was. I must say that I've been face-to-face with a frothing-at-the-mouth rabid dog, a rabid racoon, and a rabid fox, and almost stepped on a seven foot alligator on a golf course once, but I wasn't as scared those times as I was when I thought that skunk was going to spray me.
Also drove a golf cart pretty close to one on a golf course, but it pretty much ignored us.

FWIW, I have read that Massingill (sp?) douche is the best thing to remove the smell, if something does get sprayed.
