Down here, skunks are all over the place. You can't help but hit one from time to time on the road. When you do, the underside of the car takes quite awhile to get rid of the horrendous odor.

P.S. I performed a "search function" the word skunk has appeared in threads previously, but there were no threads dedicated to the particular animal.

Yes. I was once having a nice time with one behind some bushes when a policeman stopped by. Fortunately he accepted my explanation that I was taking a dump when the skunk attacked my privates.

Skunks are all over in Shaker Heights. The rumor is that they were imported to keep the rat population down. What rat population? Exactly. I don't know if it's true, or not. Maybe they keep tigers away, too.

Anyway, the jerks are absolutely clueless. They just walk along, and typically don't care if someone is near them. I've walked within 10 feet of skunks before I realized that they were there, and they don't lift an eye to notice me. (Maybe I look and act and smell enough like them that they don't take me as a threat.)

Every once in a while, a friend complains that his or her dog or cat was sprayed by a skunk. These dogs and cats aren't as smart as the average bear, though.
