Just pointing out that the article was already posted in another thread... I'm trying to raise my elitist pr ick status. I can't wait until that site breaks down his 200m performance. They just posted a commentary on him.IronBuckI;1234246; said:Or did you mean that it was good to have two posts that were in response to separate posts, in separate threads, that happened to link the same article?
However, Jamaica's dominance in the sprint events doesnt' do Bolt's case any good. Jamaica have now won EVERY SINGLE short sprint at the Beijing Games - the 100m and 200m titles for both men and women belong to Jamaicans. In fact, out of a possible 12 medals, Jamaica now own 4 golds, 2 silvers, 1 bronze. They also have the 400m hurdles champ for women, and for such a tiny island to dominate to that extent is either suspicious or the most remarkable testament to genetic selection we've ever seen. But then, the same gene pool has been there for decades, and Jamaica has never been this dominant. Good, yes, but not to this extent. So I for one am dying to know what is happening in Jamaica. I'm not suggesting they're cheating, but whatever they are doing, I'd love to know, and to implement it elsewhere.
Yes his celebration is "showy" to a lot of people but he does have respect for his fellow competitors and for those that came before him."A lot of people compare me to Michael Johnson," Bolt said. "But I don't like to compare myself to other people because I just try to be me. Michael Johnson was a great athlete. He revolutionized the sport, I just changed it a little bit."
How many times has that record been broken? Seems about every other year. What gets me is I feel the athletes owe it to the world to show what humans are capable of. He cheated himself and the rest of us by not running all the way through the line. I don't care if he does cartwheels once he crosses, but to throw your arms up before you cross the line just irritates me, and I'm normally on the other side of this argument.jlb1705;1234984; said:People should quit their bitchin' He just proved he's the fastest man in the world EVER - and it wasn't even close. He deserves to celebrate like that.
The showboating Jamaican sprinter blazed onto the scene during the Beijing Games, setting world records in the 100 meters (9.69 seconds), 200 meters (19.30 seconds) and the 4x100 meter relay (37.10 seconds). Bolt became the first man to win gold in all three events since Carl Lewis accomplished the feat in 1984.
