Ole Miss Rebels (official thread)

Also, I believe that Ohio State holds a slight series lead if you just count games after WW1. The cheaters' lead is completely based on the first 9 or 10 matchups before the forward pass was invented.
Yep, it’s actually 53-50-4 in favor of the Buckeyes in games starting in 1918, after TTUN re-joined the Big Ten. Counting 2010 as a win.

what?
I hope you don't think people outside of tOSU/Michigan fans pass down stories of The Game from generation to generation. because we don't.

you're also kidding yourself if you don't think other schools view their big rivalry series with the same enthusiasm and hate as y'all and Michigan.

just because people in Ohio don't give a shit about LSU/Ole Miss, doesn't mean we don't.

I get that. I didn't realize that Ole Miss was LSU's biggest SEC rival.

we don't really have that ONE biggest rival.
and honestly, I kind of like that about us and our schedule.

but Ole Miss would be the one that has been in that discussion the longest and most consistently.

Alabama obviously, but that one really got ramped up due to the Saban angle. But honestly, that one doesn't have a ton of true hate involved with it. It's much more respectful than the others.
Auburn had a good run of hatred especially during the Tuberville years.
Florida the last 30 years or so has gotten pretty ugly and heated.

My grandfather hated Ole Miss in the 50's.
My dad and uncles hated Ole Miss in the 60's and 70's.
and while I can't say they've been the most hated, I can definitely say they've stayed on that list of hate while others jumped on and off here and there.

And there it is.

Everyone knows who our rival is. There's no question (outside of State College, maybe?) in anyone's mind where every ounce of our energy and hatred lies. That's a rivalry. If LSU has 7 different rivals, that's not a rivalry. There's no such thing as a flavor of the month in a rivalry. Once Ann Arbor, that whore, is a smoldering pile of ash, then I may have to figure out who might be a rival. But until then, lots of other teams suck. But I'm not going to go try and pretend like this year's Indiana is our rival just because they might beat us, and I hate Cignetti's stupid face, and happen to be actually winning more games and are 200ish miles away.........

Compare LSU-Ole Miss to Oregon-Washington, Wisconsin-Minnesota, Utah-BYU, Kansas-Missouri, etc. and other ‘hated rivals’. We’re not trying to pretend the LSU and Ole Miss programs don’t hate each other, it’s just not in the same ballpark as The Game.

If just folks in SEC country were asked to name the most heated rivalries within the conference, it wouldn’t get mentioned on equal terms with the Iron Bowl, the now-SEC Red River Shootout, the WLOCP, and probably a couple more.

And they will be one of your 3 ongoing every-year opponents, but the fact that it’s not the final game of the year, when the Golden Boot and the Egg Bowl are, gives it less of a spotlight, certainly on a national scale. You each have a separate, season-ending rivalry game.

I understand rivalries don’t have to be national to be intense; hell, Lafayette and Lehigh hate each other, but the fact that The Game has impacted so many Natty opportunities adds to its intensity. Playing each other 50 times when both teams are ranked definitely raises the stakes.
