OL Sam Longo (transfer to Cincinnati, Columbus Destroyers)

I'm doubtful the coaches are willing to go with five offensive lineman in the 09 class. Especially with the other talent seriously considering the Bucks. I'm not as hopeful for Watts to choose the Bucks. Just a hunch but I think he goes to the Irish.

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

I noticed there was no film review: Rivals

Sam has an excellent frame, engages defenders well, has great punch once engaged, and has great footwork in the limited pass protection the film showed. I think Sam has LT written all over him. Once he adds 20-25 pounds of good weight to that frame and adds some strength, Sam is going to be a great OL. The only real objection I have to his game is his weight, which obviously is no big deal. On the comparisons to Barton...I don't see it. Bellbrook runs the ball alot but I see Sam as a pass protection specialist, who can run block well. I always though the vice-versa with Barton. Anyways, I love this offer.

It looks as though the coaches believe that they cannot pass on Longo...sometimes that happens. Tressel is known for finding under the radar kids that are studs. He was the best athlete of all the OL. IMO that is saying alot considering what OL showed up at camp. If Tressel likes him its all good with me...Congrats on the offer kiddo!!!

It looks to me like Longo took the scholarship of Vlad and Banks.
Agree.

Agree ... and disagree.

I think that Ohio State would definitely take five OL in this class - they wanted four last year, and got only three, so they could take an "extra" guy this year.

Agree about Watt ... I think that ND will be serious competition.

If Watt goes elsewhere, then the staff might still look to John Martinez (official visit scheduled for The Game) as the fifth OL (assuming that both Longo and Hall are "in", along with Mewhort and Linsley).

Exactly what came to my mind...we wanted either Jenkins or Long last year, didn't get them, and now we take 5 this year. As I mentioned in '09 recruiting, when you look at the depth chart, I believe it makes sense. Furthermore, we already have a ton of DB's in this class, and to me it makes more sense to offer an OL, especially when you get a quick commit from a stud like Longo. Also agree on the situation with Watt and Martinez. I personally think we get Watt, but I could as easily see him going to ND. I want Watt but Martinez would be far from a consolation prize.

4 OLs?

I don't know if the coaches want 4 or 5 offensive linemen this year.

But I am so surprised the transfer of Justin Boren is completely forgotten in this discussion. Some of you said we tried to sign 4 and got only 3 last year.

Boren was effectively a 5-star JUCO transfer. He is a replacement for Josh Jenkins. Keep that in mind.
