By Gene Higginbotham on Apr 13 2013

Although the New Orleans Saints have signed offensive tackle Jason Smith and had former Oklahoma offensive tackle Lane Johnson in for a visit, according to FOX8 Sports Sean Fazende the Saints kicked the tires on another offensive tackle draft prospect in Ohio State's Reid Fragel.

Fragel has been making the rounds lately with several teams including the New England Patriots. According to many draft sites, Fragel is slated to be be picked as high as possibly the third or fourth round which would make it ideal for the Saints.

Fragel has been receiving a significant amount of interest recently, visiting six teams prior to the Saints. The teams include the Lions, Bears, Dolphins, Giants, Patriots and Bengals. He's viewed as an underrated prospect that could go in the late second or early third round. Apr 15

Ravens displaying interest in Ohio State offensive tackle Reid Fragel
Offensive tackle is a converted tight end
By Aaron Wilson The Baltimore Sun
April 16, 2013

Ohio State offensive tackle Reid Fragel has drawn a lot of interest from the Ravens, according to sources.

Fragel has visited the New England Patriots, New York Giants, Miami Dolphins, Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears and the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fragel is a 6-foot-8, 308-pound converted tight end who started every game at right offensive tackle as a senior and earned honorable-mention All-Big Ten Conference honors.

At the NFL scouting combine, Fragel ran the 40-yard dash in 5.09 seconds and bench pressed 225 pounds 33 times. He registered a 30-inch vertical leap, a 9-5 broad jump, a 4.68 20-yard shuttle and a 7.62 three-cone drill.

Fragel was a blocking tight end previously, catching five passes for 64 yards as a junior and nine passes for 121 yards and a touchdown as a sophomore.

The Detroit native has maintained his athleticism and mobility after gaining strength and bulk to grow into the offensive tackle position.

Fragel has drawn high marks from draft analysts for his aggressiveness, movement and improving technique. He's regarded as an ascending draft prospect.

2013 NFL Draft: No-name prospects can step into spotlight
By Gil Brandt
Senior Analyst
Published: April 17, 2013

Reid Fragel, OT, Ohio State: Fragel's an interesting guy, having spent three seasons at tight end before switching to tackle. He reminds me a lot of another Ohio State product, Alex Boone, who has really matured into a nice starter for the San Francisco 49ers. The only question I have has to do with arm length: he measured 33 inches at the NFL Scouting Combine but 31 1/2 at his pro day.

Bengals work out Reid Fragel
Posted by Darin Gantt on April 22, 2013

There?s danger in putting too much stock in any particular draft visit or private workout, but the late ones sometimes bear noticing for one reason or another.

A league source tells PFT?s Mike Florio that the Bengals worked out Ohio State right tackle Reid Fragel today.

The Bengals have an extra second-round picks (37th courtesy the Raiders, along with their own 53rd), and some think Fragel could be a top 50 player, despite the lack of technique that comes with converting from tight end and starting one year at tackle in college.

Of course, the Bengals might have been working him out, hoping to grease the skids on another negotiation. Right tackle Andre Smith remains unsigned, and at last word, they were ?not close? to a new deal.

So there?s no harm in taking a closer look at a local prospect, and if it nudges Smith along, so be it.

NFL draft: Ohio State's Fragel seemingly a natural at tackle
By Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH TUESDAY APRIL 23, 2013

DISPATCH FILE PHOTO
Nfldraftscout.com has Reid Fragel (77) ranked 14th among tackles and the 147th overall prospect.

Even though Reid Fragel has been plying the trade of offensive right tackle for only a year, he knows he is climbing on the radar of NFL teams as the start of the draft looms Thursday.

The Cincinnati Bengals called the Ohio State product last week to set up a workout yesterday morning. ?Awesome? was the word Fragel used to summarize his performance in the drills at Ohio State. ?They said I improved my stock with them.?

But wait: Didn?t the Bengals spend a first-round pick on can?t-miss right tackle Andre Smith of Alabama a few years ago? The answer is yes, but the NFL is all about right now and tomorrow, and it appears the faith that Fragel had in himself when he and OSU coach Urban Meyer agreed just over a year ago that his future was as a tackle, not a tight end, is about to pay off.
?This whole time, not to sound cocky, but I was confident in my ability to become an NFL tackle,? Fragel said. ?That?s been a one-year project, and a credit to the coaches I?ve worked with.?

The Big Gamble
Potential Makes Fragel Intriguing Option NFL GMs This Weekend
By Brandon Castel

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? It took less than a year for him to make the transition, but Reid Fragel?s journey to become an NFL prospect on the offensive line has been a lifetime in the making.

At 6-8 and 300 pounds, he looks like the prototypical offensive tackle prospect. His combination of strength and athleticism makes him an even more intriguing option for any team in the National Football League hoping to bolster its offensive line in this weekend?s draft.

His quick feet and chiseled frame had pro scouts practically salivating over his potential during Ohio State?s Pro Day back in March, but Fragel has played a total of 12 games on the offensive line since he graduated from Grosse Point South High School back in 2009.

?I?ve always been a lineman at heart,? said Fragel, who played three years of tight end before switching to offensive tackle as a senior.

With the emphasis on OL and Fragel's rise, I am pretty surprised he isn't off the board yet. I would look for him to go in Round 4.

Wouldn't be shocked to see the Steelers get him this round. They still need a tackle and could have a couple of Buckeye bookends. The teams I hate always seem to draft the players I like.

An NFL scout who requested anonymity attributed Ohio State tackle Reid Fragel?s slide in the draft to an ankle injury he suffered two days before the Senior Bowl. Fragel was projected as a fourth- or fifth-round pick but slid to Cincinnati in the seventh round.

The scout believes Fragel is ?a steal? by the Bengals that late in the draft and added that he would never would have lasted that long if teams had been able to see him play against that top competition.

Fragel?s future in Cincinnati would be brighter if the Bengals hadn?t re-signed Andre Smith, but this will give him a chance to develop. Fragel was moved from tight end to tackle last season and had a bumpy transition early in the season, but his improvement was considered one of the keys to Ohio State?s 12-0 season.
