OL Orlando Pace (7-time Pro Bowler, Super Bowl Champion, CFB HOF, NFL HOF)

Pace did get robbed, but Bettis still belongs in the HoF. He's #6 all time in total rushing yards, which is impressive given the fact he was more of a Fullback playing Tailback. Bettis wasn't outrunning or evading people, he was running over people to get those yards. I think every back in the Top 15 for rushing yards is in the Hall already, unless they aren't eligible yet like LaDainian Tomlinson. Pace is one of the greatest OL of all time, and I'd be surprised if he doesn't get in within the next few years.

Apparently it was an nd sympathy vote this year. Totally shameful and stupid.

C'mon, I hated to see Pace not get in this year, but the voters don't care where the players went to school. When you look at NFL receiving records Jerry Rice is at the top of the list in many categories, but right after him you often find Cris Carter and Tim Brown.

Pace is arguably the most dominant force at LT in the history of football.

Bettis was a fatass who tripped and fell forward for a few yards over the second half of his career for the worst ypc average of anyone in the top 15 all-time rushers in the NFL.

Yeah, he was used a lot in short yardage situations late in his career, but he wasn't just falling forward for all those yards. It takes more than falling forward to bend Brian Urlacher back

He still had 8 seasons of 1000 yards rushing or more, there's only 7 other guys that can say that. He's in the Top 10 for TDs scored as well. Not bad for a fatass who tripped and fell forward. Yeah, his yards per carry weren't great in some of his later seasons, but he was used a lot in short yardage situations in those later years as well so you'd expect the yards per carry to be down, he wasn't getting the most carries. He was between 3.8 and 4.8 ypc most other seasons which isn't terrible for a starting back. The guy was essentially a Fullback, but he used more like one near the end.

You're not making a very convincing argument for HOF induction.

I think overall he has very good numbers when you're talking yards and touchdowns, but people like to point out his lower YPC near the end of his career. A lot of it had to do with how he was used, he was every bit as physical near the end of his career. He still had the ability to put forth 1000 yard rushing seasons at the end of his career, as he displayed on '04 when he came in as the starter mid season after Duce Staley was injured. He ended up just 60 yards shy and would have easily topped 1000 had he started.

In any case, the thread is about Pace. He was certainly snubbed this year, and many of the articles I've read are predicting he should be a lock for next year. Many think Pace should have gone in before Shields, but they think maybe the voters just felt it was his time. I looked up to Pace growing up. I was at OT in high school, Pace graduated just as I was playing football for the first time. I remember when they coined the term pancake because of him, I thought that was awesome. I seem to remember a game or segment where a reporter had a big stack of pancakes to signify all the times Pace crushed opposing DL that season. I kind of wish they would actually make "pancake" a tracked stat on stat sheets, to be honest. OL very seldom receive credit for their work on paper, the only way you can judge the OL from a stats perspective is sacks given up or possibly rushing yards from your RB, but at best that exemplifies the OL as a whole. Orlando Pace was such a dominant force, he deserves to be in the hall without question.

It's still total b.s. Orlando Pace isn't a Hall of Famer yet

Last night featured some worthy names being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but it was still hard to believe that "The Pancake Man" wasn't part of the 2015 class.

Each year in early August, football royalty gathers up in Canton to help usher in a new class into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Heading into the voting on the Saturday before this year's Super Bowl there was a name that seemed to be a lock to gain entry as a first ballot Hall of Famer. Instead, Orlando Pace was passed over in favor of a number of candidates who had already been on the ballot for multiple years.

The big man from Sandusky made quite a name for himself when he arrived in Columbus to play for the Buckeyes, becoming just the second true freshman to start in his first game in an Ohio State uniform. Pace became famous for the "pancake block" and earned the nickname "The Pancake Man" during his time with the Buckeyes. While Pace was famous for his monstrous blocks, the most impressive stat during his time at Ohio State is he didn't allow a sack in his last two years at the school.

Not only did Pace win the Lombardi Trophy as the best lineman or linebacker in college football in 1995 and 1996, but he also took home the Outland Trophy in 1996 as the best interior lineman in college football. Pace was the only two-time winner of the Lombardi and just the 12th player in history to win both the Lombardi and Outland awards. In 1996, Pace finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting, which was the highest finish for a lineman since Hugh Green finished second in the voting in 1980.

Re: A big reason why he was likely passed over feels like it didn't have anything to do with his playing career, but rather how the classes are structured. The maximum number of non-senior committee inductees is five, making it hard enough to be inducted into the hall. Once it was announced that Will Shields would be inducted after four years on the ballot, the dream of Pace being a first ballot Hall of Famer was erased.

You really can't say Shields didn't belong in the HOF, it was his 4th year on the ballot:

Orlando Pace: 13 year NFL career, 7-time Pro Bowler & 3-time First-Team All-Pro

Will Shields: 14 year NFL career, 12-time Pro Bowler & 2-time First-Team All-Pro

They had similar careers; hopefully next year will be Orlando's year.

FORMER OHIO STATE HEAD FOOTBALL COACH AND COLLEGE FOOTBALL HALL OF FAMER JOHN COOPER NAMED 2016 RECIPIENT OF PRESTIGIOUS AMOS ALONZO STAGG AWARD

63011_h.jpg,qitok=jZFBwIGf.pagespeed.ce.OKNw6ChJD9.jpg

John Cooper's head football coaching career spanned across more than three decades and three universities, landing him in the Iowa State Athletics, Rose Bowl and College Football Halls of Fame. His latest honor, though, could trump them all.

Cooper, the former Tulsa, Arizona State and Ohio State football coach, was named the recipient of the 2016 Amos Alonzo Stagg Award Wednesday by the American Football Coaches Association, per a press release from the organization. The honor is bestowed upon individuals or groups "whose services have been outstanding in the advancement of the best interests in football," as deemed by the AFCA.

“I’m very, very excited to receive such a distinguished award from the American Football Coaches Association,” Cooper said in the release. “I’ve been honored as a coach of the year and I’ve been inducted into several halls of fame, but it doesn’t get any better than this, to me."

The former Buckeye boss — who still hangs around the program today — joins a lengthy and impressive list of past Stagg Award recipients, including Paul "Bear" Bryant, Woody Hayes, Ara Parseghian, Bo Schembechler, Tom Osborne, Joe Paterno, Hayden Fry, Bill Walsh, Bobby Bowden and many others.

"I look at the past recipients who have received this award and I think, ‘Holy cow, what did I do to deserve this great honor?’" Cooper said in the release.

For once I agree with Cooper

What the fuck did he ever do in his completely underwhelming career to be included with names like those?

P.S. The UPS bitch is looking rough these days
