OL Nicholas Petit-Frere (1st Team All American, Tennessee Titans)

Yeah, need him to take over for Prince next year. Will be absolutely crucial to get him in as many games as possible this year.

Agreed, I think he is likely the heir apparent to Prince (although I wouldn't completely count out Alabi). He can get some reps now and hit the strength and conditioning hard in the offseason, and he'll be ready to go.

Prince was the same way as I'm sure we all remember. He will be fine and I have to say he's one impressive looking player physically already. His game will come around though
Prince had similar if not greater struggles his sophomore year, although against much stronger competition. Regardless, one should probably expect a true freshman tackle, who's been on campus for three months, to look discombobulated his first few times against a live opponent.

He beat the living fuck out of some live opponents in the first two games.

Whole second team looked off, to be kind, in the second half.

I wouldn't read too much into it. Kid has elite athleticism.

kid has the body-type and athleticism to be elite. Not many true frosh OL get thrown into the fire at a program like OSU and have instant success with no set backs. It's a learning process and the more blow-outs and reps he sees is invaluable for the future. Another full year in the weight room with Mick and he will be a beast and staple on that line in the not too distant future.

Linemen are usually pretty rough for the first one to three years. There have been a lot of exceptions to that rule lately, but that is the realm of men. it's the complete opposite of a position like running back where a guy can help right away.

Most incoming lineman lack the technique and physique to be competent let alone very good players on the line. Most prospects have to be overhauled in both areas.

the exciting thing is Dwayne's arm will lead to many blowouts to give extensive reps to the 2nd and 3rd string, which is a huge blessing in this era where guys can be played and redshirted, though I doubt that applies to Nick.

Ohio State Football 2018 Freshman Report — OT Nicholas Petit-Frere

Nicholas-Petit-Frere-1000x780.jpg

Nicholas Petit-Frere came to Ohio State from Berkeley Prep in Tampa, Florida. He was the No. 1 offensive tackle prospect in the 2018 class and the No. 7 player overall. He signed with the Buckeyes over offers from all of the nation’s top powers, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Texas, and many others. He also held offers from schools like Michigan, Penn State, and Notre Dame.

2018 Season

Along with Matthew Jones and Max Wray, Nicholas Petit-Frere was one of three offensive linemen signed by the Buckeyes, but he was the only one of the three who didn’t enroll early.

All three of them, however, ended up redshirting in 2018.

Petit-Frere earned a spot as the backup to Isaiah Prince at right tackle and saw action in three games. He could have played more if needed, and much of the reason why he was ready was because of the lessons he learned from the man in front of him.

“He’s taught me so much,” Petit-Frere said of Prince. “All of the little things about technique and also understanding the game and what it truly takes to be a great tackle. He’s taught me so much. Not only that, but he’s also taught me just how to live at Ohio State. The day-to-day process of how to keep quiet and keep doing what you need to.”
