OL Marcelys Jones (transfer to Kentucky; transfer to Alcorn State)

Jones has a lot of potential but also a lot of question marks and things that he needs to work extremely hard at if he is going to be a D1 football player.

He is the definition of a project player.

I have confidence that the Ohio State staff is working very closely with Ginn Sr. to help find the best place for Jones. If that ends up being Kentucky I wouldn't be all that surprised and don't think it affects the status of Smith and Latimore in the least.

If Jones comes to Columbus I hope he buys into the program and lives up to his potential- there will be a lot of competition.

Apparently the concern is playing time and redshirting. But if OSU "may" feel you need to redshirt do you think you can start in the SEC? I just hope he isn't being told non beneficial info to him and hope he ends up in a place where he can succeed and reach the next level.

I think you're making the common mistake of assuming the talent in the SEC is Alabama across the board.

Marcelys will without a doubt be a big time commit for Kentucky and instantly one of the most talented players in their class.

At Ohio State he's looking at competing against the likes of Demetrius Knox and Jamarco Jones- not to mention future recruits, for starting time.

If Marcelys wants to be a big fish in a little pond, Kentucky is clearly the place for him over Ohio State.

My point is if he can't block B10 guys as a frosh how is he gonna block SEC guys? I just hope UK isn't putting him in a position to struggle.

Marcelys would step into the 2 deep pretty much automatically if he committed to UK. He'd have some competition, but a team that won Only 2 games, against the likes of miami(oh) and Alabama st, has a ton of openings along the line and in general. Stoops 2014 class will see a lot of guys getting a lot of PT

I highly doubt he is worried about who he is going up against.

Early playing time is early playing time. He'll either learn and grow or he won't, whether he's starting at Kentucky or red shirting at Ohio State.

The age old question for a recruit. Would you rather sit the pine at ? or play at ? I have no doubt that Mr. Jones would benefit more from tOSU program, but he might not get the minutes he'd want. Marriotti would sculpt his body, give him more speed, and increase his strength. Probably same at UK, but never sure how much. Warriner would make him a better player, but playing gets you noticed, not standing on the sideline. I like that tOSU is working with T. Ginn sr to help this young man determine where he would best succeed. Heck, how many 3*'s has tOSU had that have played more, and done more in the pros? Kids can be coached up, and sometimes a 5* doesn't turn out like the so-called experts predict. That's why you play the game, or practice.

Whatever he decides, I'm sure Buckeye Nation wants the very best for him, ultimately. This thread pretty much says the same as I opine here. go Bucks.

Compare the amount of OL drafted out of Kentucky and the amount from Ohio State. That right there should tell young Mr. Jones which school would likely be the best for him overall...

Not really at all, O line is one position in the NFL that your college doesn't matter as long as you're prepared and can read defenses and have size and strength. Most of the o line in the NFL are from smaller colleges anyway. The first pick of 2013 was from central @ichigan, when was the last #1 o linemen picked from Osu? I wish the best for marcelys, but saying that he has a better chance of getting drafted at Osu based on past kids means little. If marcelys starts for 2-3 years and gets good reps and becomes an all conference player for UK, he has a very good chance of getting drafted. If he rides the pine for Osu for several years and starts for a year, it'll be more difficult. Both scenarios are realistic and could go either way. Hope he makes the best decision, but one team(uk) desperately needs marcelys for their line and another team (Osu) would like to add him but hes more of a project who will take time to get into the rotation.
