OL Malcolm Pridgeon (Official Thread)

Yeah, you have to think if Pridgeon stays health he'll be "right in the mix" competing for a starting position on the OL. Ideally there will be only one definite opening on the OL with Elflein being the only senior. Potentially, I could see both Prince and Pridgeon being starters though; if Jordan or Price moved to center and (probably) Prince moving to guard.
Bingo. Prince will move RT Guard and be backup OT Pridgeon should start and Myers will factor in somewhere also. I see the OL depth next year being flat fantastic so hopefully they all come to play knowing no positions are going to be set in stone.

I don't see an overwhelming amount of depth. I don't count Freshmen at all. I guess it is good the UFM said Pridgeon would play. But how does one make up for losing the best center in college football.

Yup! There was an article on Cleveland.com a few weeks ago which talked about Price returning next year and playing center to improve his draft stock. Very similar to what Mr. Elflein did this season..
Yup. Exactly. I've read speculation to that point a number of times this season. The clev.com article was the latest. I think that Elflein even had been talking about that being Billy's plan this year as well.

Boren left last year saying that Elflein was gong be the best center in college football this year. Let's hope that tradition continues. I think there's a damn good chance it does. Billy is one strong MF and with his experience next to two very very smart centers, I'm sure, has been very good experience w/r/t the pre-snap reads. Billy stays and we do something to fix the right side of the line (Prince to guard and Malcolm to RT... and have the option to lean on a number of guys coming up) and this team will win the trenches, hands down.

I have little doubt that next year will, again, be a lot of fun. I'd even go so far as to suggest that some of the frustrations due to protection breaking down will make '17 even more fun than '16. Hard to believe that could be true, but I'd put money on it.

Malcolm Pridgeon Heads Into Spring with Starting Right Tackle Spot in His Crosshairs

Redshirt junior Malcolm Pridgeon has sights set on starting in 2017.

One year ago on signing day Urban Meyer was asked about offensive lineman Malcolm Pridgeon, whom the Buckeyes had just signed in the 2016 class from Nassau Community College, and Meyer's response was simple.

"We don't recruit a junior college guy to sit," he said.

The thought was that with two open tackle spots on the offensive line, Pridgeon could come in and compete immediately for a starting spot.

With fall camp underway and the competition in its early stages, however, Pridgeon injured his knee and ended his season before he even had a chance to make good on the potential that he brought to Ohio State.

While the injury was a tough blow to handle, Pridgeon looks back on his lost 2016 season now as a positive.

"It was devastating," he said of his knee injury. "But I look at it as a blessing each and every day because I got in late spring, so it gave me time to learn the offense, develop a good relationship with my teammates and the coaches, and to this point I feel like I achieved all those goals now. The next step is to get back on the field for spring ball and take over that starting spot."

Pridgeon declared himself 80-90% healthy during bowl practices. He expects to be 100% recovered this winter, and emphasized that he would be ready to go in the spring.

What's the deal with Pridgeon? Dude played all of one snap vs. Rutgers.

Assume he won't have an impact here? The common saying is you don't bring in JUCO guys to sit and if he isn't even getting PT in a blow out when Josh Alabi gets 14 snaps then something is amiss.

Who knows how bad the knee injury was?

Hard to say.

Clearly not making an impact on the field but hopefully getting it done in the classroom.

I assume you got that 1 snap number from 11W. It's wrong. Pridgeon played on a scoring drive that they somehow missed.
