OL Kyle Trout (transfer to Cincinnati Bearcats)

I'm really excited about this guy being a Buckeye.

Put the pads on em and let him get some seasoning and he'll be a wall on either side of the offensive line. He wont have to block for long either with all of the weapons we are amassing on offense. Having a rock at one position on the line though, makes things a heck of a lot easier.

COLUMBUS ? In the final field events of his high school career, Lancaster?s Kyle Trout wanted to make All-Ohio.

He accomplished that goal, finishing seventh in the shot put and eighth in the discus at the Division I state track meet Saturday at Ohio State?s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

?This was a really great experience,? Trout said. ?I had a decent day and I felt blessed to have the opportunity to compete in the state meet.?

Trout hit 55-feet-9 in the shot put and on his third throw in discus, threw 174-6.

The senior-to-be is graduating early to enroll at Ohio State after the upcoming high school football season. He is looking forward to what the future holds.

?It is bittersweet because this was my last track meet,? he said. ?But I couldn?t have asked for a better way to end it. I?m excited for football season and what the future holds.?

Focus earns Lancaster's Kyle Trout a two-event All-Ohioan status

Kyle Trout?s track season developed slowly, like a photograph in a dark room. From the beginning, the ability and potential was clear, but everything had to go just right for the more refined skill sets to come into focus.

At the Ohio Capitol Conference meet, the Lancaster junior threw almost 58 feet in the shot put, a substantial improvement on his best official throw. Two weeks later at the regional meet, he sailed the discus 177-feet-4, an 18-foot personal best, allowing him to take home regional titles in both throwing events. He went on to finish eight in discus at the state meet and seventh in the shot put, earning All-Ohio honors in both events.

Kyle Trout is the 2013 Eagle-Gazette Boys Track Athlete of the Year.

Although his late season distances were substantial improvements for Trout in competitive throws, he had hit those distances in practice before. Reaching them in a meet was a result of slowly clarifying a precise muscle memory that Gales throwing coach Jack Cheek instilled in him.

?(Coach Cheek) would say, ?Focus on your throw, focus on your tempo.? When I would hit a perfect one: ?10 more of those and we?re done,?? Trout said. ?If you keep repeating the action, you can smooth out the rough areas and ultimately start to throw a lot farther than you ever have.?

LANCASTER ? On Feb. 10, when Lancaster offensive lineman Kyle Trout verbally committed to play football for Ohio State, his title immediately changed from recruit to recruiter.

When Trout told Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer he would join the 2014 class, he added he wanted to make it the best in the country.

?You could say it was my time because I had just committed,? he said, ?but I just figured that if I could start recruiting right away it would overall help the team in the end.?

Since his commitment, Trout has been active in recruiting other football players who are entering their senior season to join him in Columbus in 2014. That class currently has 13 committed players and Trout said he thinks he has had a hand in some of those players? decisions, specifically Cleveland St. Ignatius linebacker Kyle Berger.

?We kind of clicked and started bonding before he even committed,? Trout said of Berger. ?I?m the first person he told when he committed. He texted me four days before it was official. I?d say I had a big part in him committing.?

Berger is a four-star prospect according to 247Sports and the No. 6 ranked player in Ohio. Trout is No. 9.

The Golden Gales lineman said social media has made it easy to contact fellow recruits, but credited his close proximity to campus as the biggest reason he was able to have an impact for the Buckeyes. Trout routinely drives to campus to accompany potential commitments on their visits.

While Trout cited his desire to win as the No. 1 reason for his recruiting efforts, his approach does not center on getting the best kids to play for Ohio State no matter what.

?It?s a little bit unorthodox, but I?m just really real with them,? he said. ?I?m just like: ?You know what, you need to choose what is best for you. If this isn?t the best for you, don?t come here. We don?t want you.??

?They ask me questions and I give them straight answers. A lot of them really appreciate that.?

Trout also said he doesn?t shy away from recruiting his future competition along the offensive line. He has helped the staff target fellow offensive tackle Damian Prince, the third-ranked tackle in the country. Prince is considering Ohio State, Florida State and Alabama. While Trout doesn?t expect Prince to commit soon, he hopes he is leaning towards the Buckeyes after Trout attended his campus visit.

The efforts of Trout and the rest of the 2014 class to secure more high-end talent have made them a close-knit group.

?The coaches said that every recruiting class they?ve had has gotten close, but they said we are freaks about it,? he said.

Trout will continue the efforts to recruit other players that started more than four months ago and said Meyer knows he has a dual-threat in Trout.
