OL J.B. Shugarts (official thread)

I'm not letting this year's antics affect me...I still say Adams is a lock. He is the only one of the Block O I am willing to say that about as of 11:42 AM on 2/2/07, although I think Brewster is as close to a lock as one can be.

Have a feeling this kids recruitment is going to be a wild ride for all schools involved. He seems to say the right things about every school. I think he's really going to play "the game" and take his time and visits. I think all the schools on his Final 5 are going to feel good about their chances at one point or another.
what is wrong with a kid "saying all the right things" and "taking all of hsi visits" i think thats absolutely the right approach. now privately if he is deceptive and lies to people, thats an issue. but i think kids should take thier visits and i have no problems with kids saying "hey michigan, texas, usc, lsu, ohio state and notre dame are all great schools with great football programs." granted a good or bad report from an "expert" doesnt ruin my day. id rather walk into the fight with 85 buckeyes than 20 buckeys and 65 mercenaries...

Could've been an oversight, but there was one pretty big omission on schools mentioned.

It seems he has moved OSU, Florida, Texas and Oklahoma out into the front. Obviously OSU is going to get strong consideration considering his father was looking for work here and because of his friendship with the rest of Block O. I have to think LSU might be there until the end as well. I assume the omission you are talking about is UM. Michigan doesn't scare me too much...I do not believe in package deals at all, and even if McGuffie does end up giving a strong look to Michigan, I don't think it will impact Shugarts.

I have been hearing that you might take out Michigan and put in Okie in terms of that package deal...

Just some hearsay at this point, but if Michigan doesnt offer I think McGuffie goes to Okie which could lead Shugarts to look there...

Just pointing out that they have a friendship and you never really know how much of a factor that can be...

I understand what you are saying, but look at the odds. How many kids get offer to D1 schools all over the country. Now what are the odds that not only are those kids attending the same high school, but also are friends and have the same set of criteria they will use to decide on a college. I put ZERO faith in the buddy system when it comes to recruiting. Look at Major Wright and Leonard Hankerson this year. Perfect example. Teammates, friends, classmates...looking at many of the same schools. Both even decided to stay South and are still going to different schools. About the only kid in recent memory I have seen lobby another kid to a school just so they could stay buddies was Robert Jordan and Phillip Mbakogu...and that was because Jordan was barely getting any D1 looks.

I don't even put any stock in the buddy system when it comes to Block O. In the end, Adams, Brewster, Long, Shugarts and Jenkins are all going to do what is best for themselves...individually. Same goes for Adams, Fairchild, Gardiner and Stoneburner.

Another update by Greg Powers...great profile of Shugarts style of play. Again, his top 6 are Ohio State, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas, Florida and Michigan, but Alabama has offered and is trying to get in the mix. Talks a little bit about the Block O phenomenon.
