OL Coach Tyler Bowen (Official Thread)

I don't know that I would say the line played fine, saying they gave up two sacks and the other two were Julian's fault is ignoring how many times he is being hit as he's throwing the ball.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle.

It’s somewhere in the middle, but I’d be happy to move on from Bowen. It’s not easy finding an elite OL coach that can recruit, but there have to be some good coaches out there that can also get a few top recruits and maintain OL numbers.

One thing I’ll concede is a coach shouldn’t have multiple analysts to actually do the coaching. I don’t know the total dynamics but last year it was widely accepted that there were at least 2 former OL coaches doing a lot of the coaching.
I have no problem with that because the NFL does that with most of their teams. That’s why I was happy when NCAA loosened their coaching number restrictions, more coaches to help. They can get more player specific, 1 guy for interior and 1 for just tackles. Let them coach and teach and have Bowen focus on recruiting and game planning. I think Bowen has just 1 guy now in Dickey. But still, the OL did not look good and that falls on Bowen.

The statistics from yesterday looked almost as bad as the championship game. Seireveld was out, but..... If Day can keep the recruits he has in the bank, he may decide to make a change. For a program like OSU, the offensive line should be playing better.

Not sure if it's talent or lack of development, but something has been off this past two years.

We shall see.

Well let’s see.

The OL has got to lead the way and there’s zero reason for it not to. It appears like we are getting Austin back this week so there’s no excuses now. We are at full strength and we now have a true freshman QB who needs the very best from his group.

If there’s breakdowns everywhere and Luke is running for his life then get him out at season end. There’d be no excuses not to considering 4 of the 5 returned and literally 3 of the 5 started in the national championship game TWO YEARS AGO.

I found this video entertaining. I like seeing Ohio State do well, so a video showing only the good reps (for the OL) from the Indiana game is just fine with me. The guy narrating the video clearly loves to watch good OL play, and his enthusiasm is infectious. One of his lines I really liked was something along the lines of, "yeah... I know... refs don't like pancakes" (and yes, he was talking about the Carson Hinzman pancake of an Indiana DT that precipitated a holding call and is the thumbnail for the video).

While you would never know from this video that Ohio State ranks 74th nationally (13th B1G) in sacks allowed, I don't think an honest evaluation is the point of this video. And I'm ok with that.

By the way: I would have put this in the OL thread, but I couldn't find it. Guess my BP search skills are rusty

If USC can have that kind of week to week turnaround (Wisky performance to OSU performance) with Lincoln fucking Riley and his crackerjack staff then I'd wait to see how this OSU team responds before going crazy on any given path.

That said, the OL has been bad for a while.
With what returned it should be one of the strengths of the team
