OL Coach/Run Game Coordinator Justin Frye (Official Thread)

  • Justin Frye may have been the most vocally impassioned Buckeye coach on the day, as Ohio State’s first-year offensive line coach gave boisterous feedback to his unit in animated fashion on a number of occasions. While the Buckeyes drilled their power run game, one play in particular provoked Frye to jump into the mix amid the scarlet and gray scrum to issue a spirited and audible critique.

This thread needs a massive BUMP!
This position group worried me the most coming into the season, because for how talented the skill position players are, they can’t do anything without solid-great OL blocking! Frye has these guys playing some of the best ball I’ve seen in some years. I can see why his OLs were so successful at UCLA, but I worried how it would translate at OSU.
He had them looking solid against ND, and they looked GREAT against Wisky! The holes that were opened for Henderson and Williams were massive, and gave them the ability to turn 4yd runs into 8-10yds. Stroud had all the time in the world to carve up Leonhard Back 7, and they also limited their penalties.
If this OL continues this type of play, idk of a team holding this offense back.

Just watched the 60 in 60 replay on BTN and noticed Williams and Henderson were routinely three to four yards past the LoS before the first defender touched them.

Not only that, but watching guys like Wylper, M Jones and D Jones get to the next level and lay out some poor LB or DB was a thing of beauty. They’re an active OL who doesn’t stop blocking at the LOS against DL, but looks for ways to get the RB more yards in open space. It also helps that Hartline coaches up the WRs to competently block as well. Watching guys like Fleming and MHjr help keep lanes open was also great to see
