OL Brian Bobek (Iowa St grad transfer from Minnesota)

Bobek has much development needed.

Not sure why we blew his RS year.
Well I guess I know, we lacked bodies.

Anybody thinking he will pick up right where Brewster left off is whistling past the graveyard.

I think he will be a fine player in a couple years.

A trusted poster on Bucknuts indicated he was whipped pretty good v Akron.
The same Akron that was the worst team in D1A.

I feel Meyer can fill in the gaps on the squad in a hurry, with the exception of OL. That will take some time.

Brewster did not have a great year.
Maybe Mewort, who was a center, slides over.
And Bobek needs to get better technically so maybe that is getting addressed right now.
There will be many things addressed by the new coaching staff.

It is worth noting that Bobek was stronger than a lot of D1 lineman when he was in high school! He probably hasn't gotten weaker so any problems he had were probably technique wise and not related to his strength. :tongue2:
I think he'll be just fine at center.

Bobek could land at Big Ten school

Sophomore center Brian Bobek, who will transfer from the Ohio State football program, is considering an offer to play for another Big Ten team, he said in a statement emailed to the Dispatch early this morning.

Bobek also said he has received an offer from a Big 12 school. Bobek reportedly made a visit this weekend to West Virginia University, which is joining the Big 12. Bobek did not say which Big Ten team he is considering.

If he does transfer to another big10 school, he'll have to pay his own way through, won't he?
They just changed that rule, now allowing players to receive a scholarship from a B1G school. Teams can still block transfers to certain schools (though only for a year), though that isn't happening here.

Ohio State football: Bobek will transfer to Minnesota
By Bill Rabinowitz
The Columbus Dispatch Saturday June 16, 2012

Former Ohio State football player Brian Bobek will transfer to Minnesota, he informed The Dispatch today.

By choosing to play for a Big Ten team, Bobek will lose a year of eligibility. When the center becomes eligible to play in 2013 after sitting out the upcoming seasons because of NCAA transfer, Bobek will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Bobek played sparingly as a freshman last season after arriving as one of the nation?s top-ranked centers. He was considered the likely successor to four-year starter Michael Brewster at center, but fell behind Corey Linsley and freshman Jacoby Boren in the pecking order during spring practice under new coach Urban Meyer. At 275 pounds, Bobek was regarded by coaches as lighter than desired in the new Buckeyes? spread scheme.

The school confirmed on Sunday that Bobek would transfer.

Here is the text of Bobek?s statement announcing his decision:
