Its a fine line to walk as a coach...

I hear your, and I get that..but given his past i think it would be acceptable for him to be held to a different set of rules. I mean a year ago he admitted to having a serious drinking problem and was receiving counseling for it.

I realize it is a fine line, and given what has recently happened I'm sure the staff would have handled him differently if they could go back in time. like I said, hindsight is 20/20 in this situation especially.

I've been through rehab, MADD impact panel, as well as the 3 day "DUI Camp" as a result of a stupid choice I've made - so I understand alcholism and the like. I also have first hand experience with addiction as well as a few of my friends, one in prison now, and the other in & out of federal rehab.

With that said, poor choice.

I remember when I first joined, and got an infraction on a diffrent name, for posting a picture of Boone playing Beer Pong with a midget when he was underage.

Theres nothing any coach can do beyond pointing him in the right direction. It's up to Boone to get help and stay sober.

The dude obviously has a problem.

Nothing any of us can do beyond prayers/vibes/thoughts/whatever.. I always thought Boone was a lazy, underacheiving player - I've always thought MoC's downfall was due to alcholism as well.. hopefully Boone gets the help he needs before it's too late..

Why was he playing beer pong with an underaged midget?

why wasnt he? thats on everyones bucket list...

that being said life is full of choices. alex has an oppurtunity to make an impact in different ways/shapes and forms. its up to him. best of luck.

Maybe its better to have happened now, before a pro contract and the money and freedom of living in some NFL city far from home and friends.

You watch the show Intervention and see the denial. My best friend died of drugs after years of rehab and us trying to save him. Maybe a moment like that is an opportunity, and not a curse. I hope so.

I don't know but if you are a NFL GM are you really going to take a chance on a guy who has been convicted not only once but twice for over excessive drinking even if he does go through some rehab. NFL teams are not going to wait for him to straighten himself out.

no doubt. but i will say ive heard rumors, and ill call them that of a few incidents up PIB of some violent nature.

as you say tough to handle. tough place to be, tough to "punish" if a kid does it in a such a manner that doesnt violate any "rules" basically if hes not showing up drunk, violent, hungover or getting in trouble its hard to bring the hammer down.

that being said who knows how much infleunce the hammer would of had.

Santonio Holmes, Superbowl MVP.

Having said that...

Goes back to the points of denial/functional alcoholism.

Alex needs to believe he has a problem and confront it...

We've seen him for years now, I tend to think his personality is such that he "can handle it" or get by on talent alone if he "takes it easy" a little bit.

Unfortunately, no one can do that for him, he has to want to make the change.

Sorry if this comes off as crass and insensitive....but don't you wonder just how much beer (or whatever he was drinking) it would take to get someone as big as Alex THAT messed up?

I'm pretty sure there are calculators that help you estimate that sort of thing.

3x legal limit. Weight 330 pounds (say) - and drinking say one can every 15 minutes over 3 hours ... gives a BAC of 0.085% (just over CA limit of 0.08%).

When he was brought in Alex had 3x the legal limit.

That would require at least 23 beers in that time period.
