Does Boone need to tone it down?

COLUMBUS ? Ohio State's Alex Boone threw a block in the open field that freed receiver Brian Hartline for a touchdown against Penn State on Saturday, but the burly offensive tackle showed even more athleticism by what he did after the play.
The 6-foot-8, 325-pound junior was so giddy that he jumped completely over the 6-3 Hartline during the end-zone celebration.
"We were impressed a 330-pound kid could do it and that Brian didn't collapse," tight end Rory Nicol said.

Boone jumping for joy a scary sight

COLUMBUS -- No one could believe what they just saw. Physics -- and gravity -- typically prevent 320-pound offensive linemen from leapfrogging 6-foot-3 receivers.

But there was Alex Boone, putting his hands on Brian Hartline's shoulders and leaping right over him following a lengthy touchdown drive Saturday against Penn State. It was such a spectacular feat, the players watched it over and over during film study.

''He's going to hurt somebody some day,'' tight end Rory Nicol said. ''You'd think we'd learn after what happened to Teddy (Ginn).''

Ginn, of course, was injured after returning the game's opening kickoff for a touchdown against Florida last season in the national championship game. Roy Hall tackled him in the end zone and Ginn never returned with an injured foot.

OSU notebook: Boone's leap impresses some, not all

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Offensive tackle Alex Boone certainly got style points for the flying leap he took over a teammate Saturday, but at least one Ohio State player is concerned he might have hurt someone. After blocking for Brian Hartline on a 16-yard touchdown catch at Penn State, Boone (6 feet 8, 313 pounds) ran up behind Hartline, put his hands on the 6-3 receiver's shoulders and vaulted over his head.
Hartline did duck slightly, but it was an impressive leap for Boone.
Or was it? Tight end Rory Nicol said it brought back memories of the national championship game.
After Ted Ginn Jr. returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, teammate Roy Hall jumped on him. The result was a sprained foot that caused Ginn to miss the rest of the game.

I'll be honest, these stories are just reporters reaching based on a nugget of concern. Seriously, I know Teddy was hurt and it may have turned the momentum bad and cost us the NC- but that was a freak accident. These are football players, some of the toughest men in our country. The aches and pains associated with Sunday mornings are a direct result of violent collissions. Let's not let this spin out of control and let the kids celebrate like kids. My gawd.

I was just amazed that he was able to do it...me and my dad rewinded the play back 3 times on DVR to make sure we really saw what we saw. No more Alex Boone, unless you want to speak with Thad Matta. Greg who?

While Teddy's injury was a freak accident, I think there are plenty of other ways for AB to celebrate other than jumping over-top of Hartline. Pretty much a dumbass move, IMO, on Boones part.
