OL Alex Boone (Official Thread)

If 1 extra game was the proposal, then you're probably right. However, his scenario is a minimum of 2 additional games (CCG, National Semi's), and probably more (National Playoffs probably infers 8+ teams; otherwise 'plus 1' would be the catch phrase).

Shortening the layoff would help most teams stay sharp. Perhaps it would not have changed this particular matchup, and there is greater potential for injury w/ a lengthened season... but I think his point has merit in this discussion.

Don't need a 12th team or conference playoff or title game. A national title playoff like the "former I-AA", II, and III have would more than level the playing field as far as time off.

The time off excuse for our NC debacle is just that--an excuse. Florida had 37 days off before the title game...once you get past a certain point the differences in the amount of time off becomes moot.

I'm making the case that we did win the Big Ten, and were undefeated, but maybe should not have been in that title game. It's painful to me to admit it but based on our performance we shouldn't have been there.
The regular season team that won ALL of their games deserved to be there. They did everything they were suppose to do to get in that position: win. Anyone who says they shouldn't have been there is ONLY looking at the NC game. The (uncharacteristically) under-prepared team that showed up that day deserved to lose.

Here's another photo that really illustrates how lean Alex looks.

Make that a black and white photo (minus the scarlet 75) and I'd swear that was Robert Gallery! Hopefully Boone plays like the college Gallery not the Oakland Raider though. He needs to now get Rehring to pick it up some and we're in big business.

Talk about Alex's hair from the Ozone.

New Do: Bobby Carpenter and Anthony Schlegel were OSU's hair guys in 2005. Carpenter and Schlegel let their hair grow out and were quite striking. In 2006 it was Maurice Wells with his impressive dreadlocks that took the long hair championship for the Buckeyes.

Somebody had to step up in 2007, and left tackle Alex Boone is the guy. Boone's hair is long, very long, and he says he's keeping that was despite some discomfort at this time of year due to hot weather.

"In my helmet it's so hot I can barely breath sometimes but I've got to keep it because I love it so much," Boone said.

Boone said he almost gave up on the long hair before the season began, but stuck with it and now he's happy with it.

"I started to grow it out and I didn't like it, but I've got to make a statement about what I'm doing," said Boone.

"Then it kept getting longer and it was nice and curly at the end and I loved it. My girlfriend loves it, my mom loves it, but my grandma hates it though," Boone said.

Get used to it Grandma. It looks like it's here to stay, at least for a while, but one guy you won't be seeing with long hair soon is Boone's fellow offensive lineman Kirk Barton

"I can't do that. I don't really do the white trash vibe. I've got to keep it clean. My mom likes it like that," Barton said.

Cont'd ...

I find it amusing that the article is about the hair, and Boone is carrying the torch, and Carpenter and Schlegel started it, and not once is A.J. Hawk mentioned. I was under the impression that Hawk was one of the main guys in the beginning of the entire long-hair deal, as a sort of tribute to the fallen Pat Tillman, along with Carp and Schlegel. To add to that, I specifically recall an interview with some douche-bag in the local Green Bay market having a problem with his long hair on ESPiN after last year's draft, and me and my friends thought that any place in Wisconsin would love to have a guy like A.J. to market, and yet the long hair caused problems. Oh well, probably doesn't matter anyways.
