OL Alex Boone (Official Thread)

I disgree with you. I like Boone and he will be a 'great' one at some point, right now he's our worst lineman mentally..

Sorry but I have to disagree. Maybe its the ultimate potential I am seeing but considering he's only really started a few games (7?) I think he's doing well. I am not sure how many of the linemen could come in and play that well in such a short period. In the end, he will be great. For now, he shows signs of greatness and then at times not so. That is the legacy of any great player. In the end, I think we both see the same thing. Maybe he will "consistently" great end of this year, next year or the year after but I think we both agree he will be great and in the end, he be one of the best linemen we've ever had.

Maybe he will "consistently" great end of this year, next year or the year after but I think we both agree he CAN be great and in the end, he COULD be one of the best linemen we've ever had.
Orlando Pace is A "great" lineman

he hobbled around for awhile in between plays before he eventually came out.

one thing i noticed was the end on boone's side extra wide. normally i believe this would have been attacked more. often times tressel has a tendency to run at the player and let the tackle wall the end allowing the back to cut it up or take it around the end. while i think he has room for improvement i seem to see it every week. hes jumped a couple of times, and once i know his number was called when the te jumped. for some reason or another tressel puts him out on the field. my guess is hes the best man for the job, seems to be how he operates.

has he been beat, yes more than once. every player has been and gets beat. the key is minimizing his mistakes (which honestly i dont know how many of us know what the protection scheme is supposed to be, thus cant correctly register blame.) i do know more than once when people were complaining he was beat troy had more than enough time to make his read and make a decscion.

all things being said the reality i believe is well within the median of the posts ive read. but how often do i say about perspective is reality...

I would interpret this as:
Boone is a little dinged up from last week and he and Schafer will share snaps pretty equally.
OR
Coaches feel LT is a concern and they want Schafer to focus solely on that positon, and not back and forth between tackle and guard. Again, sharing snaps evenly with Boone.

Schafer has been a pleasant surprise this year, but I'm glad to see Rehring get in there at guard. We have been pretty devastating running to the right so far this year, and with Boone and Rehring in there together, we have the chance to be equally devastating running left. I just hope the pass blocking holds up.

Not bashing, but Boone has definitely gained a lot of weight back since the start of fall camp. He also has been flagged for more penalties than any other lineman. I hope he focuses more and cuts down on his mistakes (and his weight).

Lets hope its the consumption of calories from food.

He seemed to be down to earth and more than friendly when I meant him. Would never think of an alcohol problem. I think he's got to be one of the nicest guys on the team
