[FONT=arial,sans-serif]Boone steps up for OSU offensive line
4:55 p.m.
COLUMBUS - Sophomore left tackle Alex Boone, a St. Edward High graduate, had his best game of the season Saturday against Penn State and was named Ohio State?s offensive lineman of the week.
?I thought he played a lot more physical, a lot lower, with a lot more confidence,? Tressel said. ?He?d been nursing a little bit of soreness, and after we got through the preseason and he got his legs back with him, he seemed to be the freshest he was, playing in this football game.?
Other weekly awards went to receiver Brian Robiskie as the offensive player of the week, cornerback Antonio Smith as the defensive player of the week and Anderson Russell as the special teams player for catching a punt over his shoulder to down it at the 1-yard line.
Also, defensive end Vernon Gholston was the Attack Force player of the week. The scout team players of the week were Brandon Underwood, Albert Dukes and Juan Garnier.
SPIKING LESSON: Tressel was understanding about Malcolm Jenkins? spike on his interception return for a touchdown Saturday, which replays showed may have come before he crossed the goal line, though the officials ruled it a touchdown.
?We do talk a lot about ?Act like you?ve been there before,? but you know, I thought about it, and Malcolm had never been there before,? Tressel said of the sophomore cornerback?s first college touchdown. ?Not that that excused that. In fact, I thought I saw a little high step by Antonio.?
Tressel was joking with Antonio Smith, who was in the room for the news conference today. He returned an interception for a touchdown soon after Jenkins on Saturday.
?So we had a couple guys who it was their first time that they had that sensation, and I?d like to think that we?ll learn from it and that won?t ever happen again,? Tressel said. ?We talk a lot about handing the ball to the official, then find the other 10 guys that made it possible and celebrate with them, and apparently we?ve got to get better at that.?
