OL Alex Boone (Official Thread)

Alex needs to improve his mental discipline. He had three penalties on him against Texas, IIRC (holding and a couple false starts).
agreed... however, in his defense, the guy on the other side of the ball is a senior and a stud... the bright side is that we've barely begun to see how good Alex can be...

Is it just me, or has anyone thought about "withdrawal" issues associated with his play?

no. You don't have withdrawal issues months after quitting drinking. Especially when you're only 19 with at most 3 years of any real drinking under his belt.

He's a sophomore. He'll be fine.

And he has the most important job on that O-Line-- protecting Troy Smith's back (where rushers can hit him blindly). Boone can NOT be the one giving up sacks on that O-Line.

I'm not very worried. Alex is still only a true sophmore playing a position typically held by upper-classmen. As it has been sad repeatedly, Alex has lost a ton of weight, I think that this will help Alex for sure with time, although he lost a LOT of qeight very quickly, so it might take him a bit longer to adjust his playing style, in addition to that he faced a very tough senior D-Linemen in hot Texas heat, and just didn't was mentally exhausted.

It wasn't a good game for Alex, but we won, and he will only get better.

By "Last Week" you mean NIU I assume and Troy did not get sacked in that game.

As for Boone, he will be alright. All I heard all summer was how great these two DE's were, so I guess I can live with 1 sack all night. The penalties he needs to fix, but I trust the staff and Mr. Boone will right that ship.

just for accuracy, he said he started drinking in 8th grade.

Starting drinking and drinking of any real substance are two different things. Experimenting is not being a lush.

But I'll concede your point. But he's 19. He hasn't been doing anything long enough to have real withdrawal.
