Ohio University to play Ohio State in 2008

Nothing beats some good old sMAC talk. They may not be our younger brothers but they are definitely our little brothers... and they just can't stand it.

Let's see. We have the two older brothers viewed as inadequate by Ohio's political and business leadership of the 1860's...they're passed over for the leadership role and forced to watch their younger brother put in charge...subsequently, they are given insignificant, secondary roles away from the family's center of power...their diminished role and stature leads them to seethe in bitterness and jealousy over being passed over...in the 1960's they make their move at reclaiming the throne by teaming up with a staunch (and politically powerful) rival of the younger brother...the attempt to seize power, while causing temporary turmoil to the younger brother's operations, ultimately fails, and the older brothers are crushed in retaliation.

Hmmmmm, I know there has to be some character in popular fiction who would make a perfect metaphor. I just can't place of whom I'm thinking.

Lots of sh!t talk on the bobcat board tonight:

BobcatAttack.com - For Fans of Ohio University Sports

6 losses

No losses to anyone who won a bowl game (only played 2 teams who went bowling, both lost)

Beat only 1 team who played in a bowl game (who lost by 56 in the bowl game)

Lost to 2 teams who lost to OSU this year

Lost to Buffalo by 3 scores

Remind me why I care again what they think...and I'm a graduate of the fine institution.

They are just bitter because of the sea of scarlet on campus today. It was, to say the least, breathtaking.

There was a lot of it, and it probably got to their heads. More people care about big boy football than little MAC football. Get over it.

We just need to stop playing these minnows. Nothing to gain and everything to lose. Winning against them isn't enough because they don't take care of business the rest of the year. I hope they enjoyed the game.

daveeb, do you currently attend OU? What is the current football culture? Do students not go to the football games at all?

I currently go there. Some students do go to the football games. And then, those that attend leave at halftime. It's free attendance for students, and they can't even get them to go. Most of the locals go to the games.

You see a lot of scarlet on campus on gameday.

I graduated from OU in '02. Made it to most football games. It's funny that people still leave at halftime, no matter what the score is. Do you think bringing in a big name opponent would spur interest?

It would bring people in for the first half. But, if OU is down, they'd still leave.

Been that way for as long as I can remember. Was in Athens in the late 80s. Being alum of both schools, it was quite an eye opener to see how different things are in Athens.

Heck, even homecoming is a "see the band play and hit the bars" event.

I had high hopes that Frank would do something down there in Athens... bring the team up from the bottom of the Mac, but alas... hasn't happened yet.

As for the sour grapes in Athens regarding all the S&G on campus. I think that it's hard pill to take when you are constantly reminded that even on your own campus, your football team isn't the one with the most fans.

At least when I was there we had a great club hockey program, and Gary Trent was to become the Shaq of the Mac. Right now, I'm not sure what OU has to look forward to in terms of sports.

It is a beautiful place though... a great place to go to school and get a great education... that is, if you can keep yourself out of the bars. Anyone who graduates from OU with a solid GPA and leads a balanced life while there would do well for themselves.

In the mean...

They need to schedule name opponents if they want to get attendance from students AND alumni. I was really excited when Virginia Tech was supposed to come. They then switched the game back to VTech. Northwestern is supposed to be a home game following the game against OSU, I heard that may turn into a road game as well.

I agree w/ a lot of your points. Football has improved from where it was. It's still going to be a blow this fall in the Shoe. The only positive is that it is the game before USC so maybe OSU will overlook them a little bit. Not counting on that though.

The legislature required us to do so for ten years as a condition of using state money on the Ohio Stadium renovation. Tressel has, in my opinion, taken it to ridiculous extremes by scheduling two and three games against them every year. He's putting the interests of "football in Ohio" ahead of the interests of the alumni who would prefer to see more interesting intersectional games and road trips to good locations.

My preference would be, once our ten year commitment is over, to stop playing them entirely. I'll settle for no more than one per year.
