Ohio University to play Ohio State in 2008

Come September, this will represent what has always been referred to metaphorically as being hoisted upon one's own petard:

Football is a game of motivation. You have Ohio no getting any respect in preseason mags while Ohio State is getting fitted for Big Ten, national title rings and the heisman trophy. This is the same Columbus State clowns that were drilled against LSU. I fully expect a hangover for them early in the year. I think Youngstown State could give them a game. Columbus State is the most overated defense in the country. LSU moved the ball at will against that defense....and LSU had a weak offense. With an accurate QB, Ohio could really hurt them. Teams will have a tough time scouting Ohio because the film is nothing but runs with #5 into the endzone. They don't know about our improved air attack. We still have some of best backs in the MAC. They are quick. Can the line get them into the slow Buckeye secondary is the key. One on one Garrett out runs everybody on that defense. Having a back on single coverage vs a linebacker means six points with the right QB. If Scott and Boo get time we will score.

Remember, it's only June. By the time August rolls around, half the posts on the bobcatattack forum will be related to the game. Lots of posts regarding OU playing a "vanilla" offense against Wyoming to try to surprise OSU w/ plays from the true playbook. That comment about LSU having a weak offense made me spit coffee on my computer. Too funny.

I really shouldn't derive any pleasure out of this, but whatever. Going back to '06, if I could cut and paste together the threads from the NIU, BGSU, Akron, and KSU games from their individual sites, they would follow almost identical trends:
  • A few days prior to game day, the planning of the "bar takeover" begins. "Which bar in Columbus are we going to completely take over? We're gonna fill every bar in Columbus with [insert MAC school colors]!!!"
  • Planning of which colors said MAC fans should wear to "totally make it look like we took over their stadium."

Just as rocketman predicted; although it looks like they're starting early down in Athens. Give them credit at least they're planning their bash on campus...give it until September 1st to move to Worthington. Oh and I guess they've decided on Green. :slappy:

On another note, who all is making the trip in to town for the Friday night/Saturday festivities? Plans are in the works for a Friday night bash downtown, and a Bobcat Bash on Campus day of the game. Rest assured there is a small team of dedicated folks here in Columbus doing our best! We'd really like to paint the town green that day!
Really this isn't as bad as I've seen before from other Fredo's boards and to his credit, earlier in his post he said it would be a good day if they could keep it within 14, but given rocket's previous post, it was too good to pass up.

...other Fredo's boards ...

"Fredo" - Easily my favorite nickname for the in-state little brothers. While they usually give us a tougher game than they should, the Bobcats are VERY likely to live out Fredo's fate on September 6th. The talent disparity runs so deep this year that JT may not be able to keep the score from getting out of hand.

The Friday night bash will probably be at Lodge Bar. That's where they usually have the alumni gatherings.

I admire the fact that they are having their takeover party inside the city limits. Bonus points for being in the Arena District.

I forgot to add that in the case of going up against in-state MAC schools, at some point prior to game day, there will be a mass ridiculing of front-runner fans who attend said in-state MAC school, and yet still have the gall to root for Ohio State. This discussion usually ends with the sad realization that the upstanding supporters of said in-state MAC school are, in fact, in the minority on their own campus.

Well, it looks as though the Ohio Stadium crowd will be treated to a performance by the Marching Vanilla Ices. Their loser of a president in a pathetic act of pandering to compensate for his own faculty's vote of no confidence is paying the 30K out of his own pocket to send them to Columbus.

Hopefully, the Ohio State AD will have the proper sense to deny them a half-time performance and confine that Marching Minstrel Show to the pregame.

Well at least McDavis is making some use of his self appointed 300K bonus he gave himself in 2005 right after the faculty gave him the no confidence vote. Now all he has to do is do the honorable thing and give some of the rest of that bonus back to the sports he cut in 2006.

Also, at least the 110 gets a free ride to Columbus and a free showing of how a REAL band performs.

Whatever, no difference in the game, now OU only loses by 42 points.
