Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

My reactions by weight this season and outlook for the next year:

125: I'm not going to dog McCrone, he gives a lot of effort and pulled off some nice wins. But I do wonder what our plan is here. We have nobody coming in here and McCrone was not a highly touted recruit. Maybe hit the portal and get a transfer? Otherwise I think what you saw with McCrone at B1G/Tourney is what to expect.
133: Bouzakis is not wrestling to his ability and needs to focus on his mental game. He's as talented as Mendez, but just not a smart wrestler. He might bump up and I think that would be a good thing, get Davino in as a frosh at 133. Davino will come in and beat Bouzakis if it comes to that, but I don't think it will because I see Bouzakis at 141 and Mendez at 149.
141: Mendez is obviously a stud, nothing more to say other than I think he should bump up to 149. He looks kind of sallow and while he performed amazing at the weight, I think it benefits Jesse and the team for him to move up to 149.
149: D'Emilio came close to being an AA again, but no cigar. Appreciate his efforts at OSU, kid always went hard. Weight filled by Mendez per the above.
157: This weight class is a shit show honestly. If Paddy is healthy, I'm not sure we have an AA. IF Sasso comes back, and that is a major IF, he could be the guy here. Might be a portal target here.
165: We have e'Than Birden coming in and he is going to be good imo. But I wonder if Kharchla comes back if he can get down here again? I am not really impressed by Hepner at all and really don't want to see him be the guy.
174: Rocco is the man. Just stick with it unless he bumps up.
184: Rogotzke can be really good here, hit the gym and work on the high-percentage moves that don't involve funk. Keep the funk, just stronger in the weight room and work on the moves that get you the win. Kid is going to be a good one though imo.
197: Geog is not it. I wish Feldman could drop down here, I just don't think he can. Might be another portal fill.
HWT: Feldman is awesome and will place higher next year. Neeves comes in from Blair as the #1 guy. It would be awesome if Feldman could get down to 197, though I don't see it happening.

McCrone was fine. We also have Kilkeary.
Bouzakis was good. Still figuring it out.
Mendez was great. 149 is better for his FS aspirations at 65kg.
D'Emilio has another year.
Sasso is finished. Paddy isn'tgood enough.
Kharchla will never see 165 again and doubtful he wrestles.
Hepner and Geog were disappointing.
Rocco and Rogotzke were great.
Feldman is a HVY. He was great.

D'Emilio has another year? That I didn't know. He'd be a welcome addition back, wonder if he would be any good at 157. I would like to see Davino come in at 133 and Bouzakis and Mendez both bump up.

OH, HI MARK. Three weeks ago, former Ohio State wrestler and UFC legend Mark Coleman was hospitalized after he rescued his parents from a fire in his childhood home near Toledo. Coleman, 59, was airlifted from the scene after he inhaled large amounts of smoke in his rescue efforts.

Thankfully, Coleman’s condition improved after 48 hours in the hospital. On March 14, Coleman’s daughter, Kenzie, posted a video on Facebook that showed Coleman speaking with his daughters for the first time since the fire.

“I’m the happiest man in the world,” Coleman said in the video. “God, I’m so lucky. I can’t believe my parents are alive. I had to make the decision because I got out of my room and went to the door and it was already horrible. I couldn’t breathe. I almost had to go outside. And I went back in and got them. I can’t believe it. I got them.”

For the rest of March, Coleman’s heroics became the talk of the Ohio State wrestling and UFC communities. On Tuesday, the UFC honored and recognized Coleman’s bravery, inviting him and his daughters to attend UFC 300 in Las Vegas.

While it’s unclear if Coleman will attend the event as a spectator or participate in the festivities, current UFC competitor Max Holloway has campaigned for Coleman to present the BMF belt (short for the “Baddest Motherf— belt) to the winner of Holloway’s bout with Justin Gaethje.

Vince Bouzakis has committed to following his brother Nic and being a Buckeye! He is the #2 ranked 157 pounder just finishing his junior year. Now hopefully Marcus Blaze will be next to join the Buckeyes!
Awesome! Vince is an absolute stud, I was hoping he would follow Nic. Dude killed it on the national scene last year. Plus it fills a huge area of future need at his weight class. Add Blaze and we're cookin (pun mildly intended).

I know even less about wrestling than I do about college football. That being said, my phone is lighting up with texts from wrestling buddies with information that Jesse Mendez is 2-0 in Olympic trials today, beating a couple seasoned international vets.

Up against 4-time NCAA champ Yianni Diakimihalos next.

I didn't watch but saw he beat Joey McKenna, 8-1

Marcus Blaze gave Nick Suriano a tough time but lost 4-2, cool to see though....Blaze that is, not Suriano winning
