Hoping that one of the wrestling gurus can help me out here.. I am concerned about Snyder going against Coon at the NCAA''s. I just do not understand how Kyle will be able to score points on Coon unless he can get to his lower leg which he has been able to do in the prior two matches.: Coon is just too big for Kyle to score in any other manner and I am sure that Coon will be on the lookout for any type of shot at his lower legs which could eventually hurt Kyle. I was wondering if any of you guys have any idea how Kyle might attack him at the NCAA because I have no idea. Coon is just so large I just do not see how Kyle will be able to take him down as I do know that Kyle is very experienced.

The key to getting to the legs on anyone is defeating the head and hands defense. It's all about the setup. When Snyder wrestled Coon in 2016, Coon did not have great head and hands defense. He was basically standing upright and trying to lock up a thrown or get push outs by charging ahead. But in the last 2 years he has gotten very good with his defense and his conditioning is superb now. For Snyder to convert a shot he's gotta catch Coon off guard and then get in and out before Coon can stalemate the position. A lot harder than it sounds. It took him until 4OT's to get Coon off guard enough to get in there and even then he had to get out from under Coon to finish and get 2. He was helped because Coon bailed and tried to flee which was a mistake, IMO. Both will make adjustments next time. I like Kyle to score earlier in the finals and win 5-3.

Great job Singlet Bucks! Was looking to see if Cale Sanderson's face would crack with emotion, but was sorely disappointed. Stoic to the end. Not sure how many Penn St qualified, but assume it was as many as tOSU. Nationals will be exciting, as there are non-B10 wildcards in there that want some props too. Great addition of the guy from Stanford, his points certainly helped. Here's hoping that the champs maintain, and the runners-up (tOSU wrestlers, natch) catch some fire. Would love to see our seniors win the Big Gold Ring as their swan song. PS, did Snyder wrestle and NOT win his freshman year? thought he had shirted (or something), because he was doing his World's or Olympics things, and didn't go mat as a freshman.....?

Go Bucks!

Actually, we qualified all 10 and it looks like PSU will have 9 unless they get an at-large at 125. Snyder lost in the finals at NCAA's his freshmen year, got caught and pinned in the first period.

And on Snyder's looming rematch with Coon, the biggest thing is to finish quickly. I think he can regularly get to the low single on Coon but he just can't get caught underneath, or Coon will flatten him.He did an excellent job of coming out the back door quickly on his takedown to win in OT.

It's somewhat rare to see a true heavyweight do any type of shot and Coon is no real exception. Part of what makes Snyder so special is he is able to get a shot in on anyone regardless of their size, but he has to be careful about it.

The biggest thing with any shot at any weight class is setting it up properly. The reason it went 3 OTs is because the set up just wasn't there and Snyder is smart enough and experienced enough to not really try to force it. Any further rematch he has with Coon should be an instant classic.

Top seeds are getting revealed over the next couple hours on the NCAA Wrestling Twitter feed, seed selection announcement overall at 6...I will update as they come out:

125: #1 Cruz, #2 Tomasello (a little disappointed here but Cruz is undefeated and the reigning national champion...can't argue it much, but that means NaTo has to get through Suriano or Lee in the semi's most likely)
133: #1 Gross, #2 Micic (no surprise again, likely sets Pletcher up for #3)
141: #1 Meredith, #2 Eierman (a little surprised on Eierman at #2 but really does not matter a whole where McKenna ends up imo...slight preference on being on Eierman's side)
149: #1 Retherford, #2 Sorensen (no surprise)
157: #1 Hidlay, #2 LaValle (wow, even with the Nolf injury that shocks me...I am guessing Pantaleo, Nolf and Jordan are coming up in the next 3 of 4)
165: #1 IMAR, #2 McFadden (apparently the seeding committee is really impressed with the ACC and Big 12...Joseph should have been #2 imo)
174: #1 Valencia, #2 Hall (no surprise)
184: #1 Nickal, #2 Martion (no surprise)
197: #1 Moore, #2 Ben Darmstadt (not a huge surprise, but glad he got the #1...wasn't sure if he would with the losses)
Hwt: #1 Snyder, #2 Coon (not a surprise)

EDIT: Selection show link

My thoughts on the draws:

125: The more I think about it, the more I like where NaTo landed at #2. He likely stomps his way to semis and he has wrestled Lee before, so I like NaTo at this point. On the other hand, he has not faced Suriano and that match would have been a bigger unknown in semis should NaTo have got #1.

133: Luke was going to end up #3 or #4...might have preferred #4. At #3, he likely has Micic in the semis (if he makes it there) and that is not a good matchup for him. Not sure he beats Gross either but he might have had a better shot. Don't get me wrong, Luke can beat Micic, I just don't like the matchup as much...I do like his path to semis though.

141: Not sure it really mattered where Joey landed but he should have Jack again to get into the semis, who he handled last time. Will be tough to do it again but I like how he wrestled him last time. And I honestly think he can take down Meredith at 149 and matches up well with him, although he could be just as likely to face Nick Lee in the semis. In any event, McKenna is peaking at the right time and I like him against anyone right now.

149: I don't hate where Hayes is at the 5 seed...could very well seeing him beating Heilman in the quarters...but then there is of course no getting past Retherford. Wish he could have been on the bottom half...likely would lose in the semis to Sorensen as well but would have stood a chance. Will need to fight back in consolations without a doubt at some point, hopefully not until semis.

157: Really confused here and I don't like what happened. How the hell did Shields move past Jordan and Pantaleo? How does Nolf not get the #1 seed? How does Kemerrer get the #6 seed over Mic when they split this year and Mic pinned him most recently? Well, the result is Mic ends up with a #7 seed. He could beat LaValle in the quarters, although it is a tough matchup...but then he would get Nolf. The only way this works out is if he upsets LaValle and Nolf isn't healthy.

165: At least got a good chance to win the first match here, then a likely loss to Chad Walsh...but honestly could not have got a much better draw given the circumstances.

174: Landing on the other side than Valencia, Kutler and Amine works for me. I think Bo landed in the perfect spot after his backslide. Daniel Lewis is very beatable in the quarters. And I would much rather have Hall than Valencia in the semis, really think Bo has a good shot at getting revenge on Hall this time around. Health is obviously an issue but this is about as good of a draw as he could get imo.

184: Not much to say, pretty expected here. Just avoid the upsets and get another shot at Nickal in the finals.

197: Great to get the #1 seed, not crazy on having Macchiavello on the same side at #4 (lost earlier this year). But if he wrestles like he did in the B1G's, I like Kollin's chance to get into the finals.

Hwt: Fully expect to see Snyder in the finals but in terms of bonus point potential, rough having Tanner Hall at #8, then Kasper at #4. Oh well, be a hero Kyle.

PSU not having anyone at 125 gives us a nice leg up.

I like Martin's chances for another title.

Ditto on 125, but I just like Martin's chance to get to the finals again this year...Martin has improved so much and I liked him to beat Nickal watching him the first couple months. But after watching both of his losses to Nickal, he looked very outmatched. Nickal has figured out he doesn't have to go big on Martin and can win with basics, which has essentially shut Martin down. Anything can happen at nationals and Martin is definitely talented enough to beat him, but I have Nickal as the strong favorite. Would love to be wrong, watching him win a freshman in that match against Nickal and seeing his dad's reaction was seriously one of the most exciting moments I have experienced watching wrestling.
