Ohio State Wrestling (2015/2017/2018 B1G Champs, 2015 National Champs, 2019 National Runners-up)

Future Buckeye heavyweight Nick Feldman had a pretty good weekend at the Clarion Open. Could've been a great one, but he forfeited the championship match (no idea the reason but wasn't injured). He beat a two-time NCAA qualifier who is ranked #22 HWT this year in the quarters and beat Pitt's HWT 11-3 in the semis. He looked to be around 230 to 240 #s and is very quick, a takedown specialist but not much of a top man. Others say he reminds them of Kyle Snyder and I see the comparison. Seems to favor the single-leg and it is a very good move. This guy will score a lot of team points at Ohio St.

Is this it?

Good find..if I recall correctly that 'still' is right when he hit one of those singles I was referring to. Remember this is a h.s. senior wrestling a college upperclassman 2X qualifier with a substantial weight advantage and it didn't seem close. Would be interested in your comments on his style.

Another week, another commit! This time it's Ohio boy Luke Georg who's the #7 rated 170-pounder in the class of '22 from Lakewood St. Edward H.S. Script Ohio, do your thing on the visual!

Anthony Echemendia's days at Ohio State came to an abrupt end this morning as he was booked into the Franklin County Correction Facility on a charge of domestic violence for committing felonious assault against his wife. Sickening.

Maybe the best wrestling recruiting class in NCAA history? Certainly the best in Ohio State wrestling history as Jesse Mendez has committed to the Buckeyes, giving Coach Tom Ryan the #1,#2, and #3 rated wrestlers in the 2021-22 class as well as #19. For those who don't follow as close, that's
1.Mendez
2.Bouzakis
3.Welsh
19.Shumate

edit...so excited I forgot to even mention Hwt. Nic Feldman!!

No program has swept the top three in the class in the modern recruiting era according to the final FloWrestling rankings. When you add No. 19 Shumate – who at one time was a top five prospect himself – along with No. 45 Luke Geog and former top-40 recruit Gavin Brown, it's not hard to see that something big is building in the Jennings Family Wrestling Facility.

The class also includes Brendan McCrone, 125 lbs., Lake Catholic, Ohio

Big dual match win tonight over #8 ranked Va.Tech (OSU ranked #9). Night started off with 5-2 win by Heinselman over a higher ranked Hokie. After Koontz was majored the Bucks were down 4-3. Next D'Emilio wrestled best match I've seen him with a great ride out, and then Sasso was Sasso against another good opponent,Andonian from Ohio. At that point it was 9-4 OSU. Hepner competed at 157 but was overmatched and Kharchla won a closer decision than I expected. Smith lost a close, well wrestled match with a former NCAA champ and Jordan was beat 7-1. Now with two matches left it was 13-12 Tech. At 197 Hoffman's match was stopped numerous times by his bloody nose which made it really choppy but may have worked to Gavin's advantage as he held on for a 1pt.win. That put all the pressure on Orndorff who wrestled a Stanford transfer. Tate started slow and halfway through I thought we were beat but a surprise single leg td in the third followed by a ride out gave Tate and the Buckeyes the win at the final buzzer! Really impressed by both Malik Heinselman and Dylan D'Emilio. I hope we get to see Paddy Gallagher soon at #157 which should leave only #133 and #184 as problems until Romero returns.

Thanks for the breakdown, unfortunately I haven't got the chance to see any of the action. Would be great to get Paddy in at 157 and Romero back at 184. Would be a damn strong lineup.

Since I posted about Gallagher last Friday I've read in several places that Coach Ryan's preference is to hold Paddy back this season and let him be part of the BOOM class next year. As you probably know one appearance on varsity means your redshirt is kaput in college wrestling so he will likely only be seen in opens as "unattached" this season. If this pans out Bucks gonna kick some B10 ass the next couple years.

That makes sense to me really. Ryan knows we're not making a title run this year even with a solid team, no reason to burn the redshirt. When Ryan had a change of heart with Myles Martin burning the redshirt, it was because he knew we had a legit shot at a title. I don't see that being the case this year even in the most optimistic scenario.
