Well, not all bad things as takeaways here despite a loss. Nobody should point to a single match as the cause of the loss, but Luke losing does change the outcome of the dual, from both momentum and points. But let's get real, Luke (along with Kollin) is the life, blood and fight of this program, he gave it his all. He'll get Lee back when it matters.
But such a mixed bag here. Can't believe Malik and Kinner won their matches, but thrilled with their performances. Decatur hung tough for 2 periods, but deflated at the end. Sasso should have won in regulation with stall points, but grinded out a great win. Smith wrestled very well and got screwed on officiating to take a major. Romero just blew it, no way around it. Ditto for Rocky, he didn't even look like he wanted to be there. Moore was spectacular and left no doubt that he's #1.
Then... Gas Tank Gary gets his own paragraph because shame on anyone who stopped watching before this match. Gary lived up to his nickname in a thrilling win at the end of the 3rd. This kid is going to cement a legacy for our program. He's the reason college wrestling is so fun to watch. May the Gas Tank never run dry!
