Nolf had something happen to his knee versus Rutgers today. From the little I read, from a health perspective and having all competitors at full strength this year having a dislocated knee is the best potential thing that could have happened. But some people are speculating it could also have damaged/torn a ligament which would likely end his season.
Just watched the match. It happened in a scramble where the Rutgers guy was trying to pass the ankle and Nolf's knee was in a knee bar position and just had too much pressure applied. Just looking at the closeup of his knee on TV it looked bad. Immediately swollen or out of place. Will be interested to hear what the extent of the damage is. At backup they have don't have a lot of options at 157 which is amazing considering the recruiting binge they have been on. They could move some redshirt 149 guys up but no experience.

Early predictions for the match this Saturday with Penn State

125 – Nato gets the tech. Anything less hurts our chances. The PSU kid is over-matched but will fight. I don’t see a pin because Nato doesn’t get many of those. OSU 5 – PSU 0
133 – Pletcher with a decision. I’ve watched Keener’s last 6 matches and he’ll keep it close and this may go to OT. Luke just needs to stay solid in neutral. OSU 8 – PSU 0
141 – Definitely a toss-up match. McKenna has one loss to Thorn and Lee has been wrestling really well since having the redshirt burned. I think Joey finds a way to pull this out but it’s a close match all the way. OT would not surprise me. OSU 11 – PSU 0
149 – We need to keep the damage to no more than 4 points. A pin would fire up PSU. I expect Hayes to get hit with stalling but he just needs to stay off his back and away from the bow & arrow. I don't see Hayes riding Zane. OSU 11 – PSU 4
157 – If Nolf is out Micah should be able to put up 4 points against the PSU backup. Looking at the roster they would have to pull a redshirt or go with a backup. They could always bump Zane to 157 but I don’t think they would do that. OSU 15 – PSU 4
165 – If Campbell wrestles Joseph this could get ugly with stalling and lots of takedowns. If Burcher goes his challenge will be to keep the damage to 4 points or less. I see no path where we win this match and giving up a major is a win. OSU 15 – PSU 8
174 – Hard match to call but you would have to give Hall the advantage wrestling at home and with Bo dinged up right now. I think this is a 6-4 type match with Bo coming out on the losing end. In no scenario do I see bonus points here. OSU 15 – PSU 11
184 – Watched Nickal’s last dozen matches and he is nowhere near where he was last year. But he can turn it on quickly at home. Martin has looked unbeatable all year. This should be a close match. I like Martin to win by decision but it could go the other way too. OSU 18 – PSU 11
197 – PSU has three guys at this weight that were all at one point ranked in the top 10. That’s unheard of in wrestling. Rasheed has looked the best of the three and he has a cradle that is very tough to defend. Moore has been dominating everyone he has faced thus far. The key here will be Moore scoring takedowns and being able to get out from bottom. If he can do that and not gas he will win. OSU 21 – PSU 11
285 – Snyder either majors or tech’s Nevills. No scenario where Nevills keeps it to less than that. Let’s keep it at a major

In the scenario above: OSU 25 – PSU 11
If Lee beats McKenna: OSU 22 – PSU 14
If Lee beats McKenna and Nickal beats Martin: OSU 19 PSU 17
If Rasheed, Lee, and Nickal win: OSU 16 PSU 20

Should be a great match. Looked at tickets but there are almost none available and the ones out there for sale are very high priced.

I watched the dual last night, it looked pretty nasty...Nolf had a look of disbelief on his face. Seems very likely it is a season ender. Trainer only needed about a minute to examine the knee and rule him out of the match. I hope he is ok first and foremost because he is a great kid and such a fun wrestler to watch, always 100% the aggressor. However, I also don't want a national title to come with an asterisk...if Nolf is out, the odds of us winning go up astronomically. Nolf is a bonus point machine all the way through finals. Its wrestling and injuries like this happen, we can do nothing about that, but I want to see both teams at full strength in February/March. I just readan article where Sanderson is "very optimistic" he'll be back for post-season, but that he likely won't wrestle in any duals before that.

But if he is out for the dual and I would assume that is the case, OSU will be the favorite to win the dual. Regardless, this dual will be the dual of a lifetime imo. I have watched every PSU match that has been on TV and make no bones about it, they are extremely good even without Nolf. My guess if he is out:

125: Nato by tech fall over Schnupp (OSU 5-0)
133: Pletcher by decision over Keener (OSU 8-0...a major would be great but Pletcher typically doesn't score a ton of points and Kenner is pretty good)
141: Lee by decision over McKenna (OSU 8-3...this is a critical match and I hope Joey pulls it off, but he hasn't looked great this year and Lee looks like the real deal...I mean might win the whole thing real deal)
149: Retherford by major decision over Hayes (OSU 8-7...really hope Hayes keeps it to a decision but the Zane Train at home will be tough to stop)
157: M. Jordan by tech fall over ? (OSU 12-7...might be a forfeit or pin and add a point, but I would think PSU throws someone out there)
165: Joseph by decision over Campbell (OSU 12-10...I hope Campbell is healthy and can fend off bonus, Joseph is definitely capable of bonus here...need to just limit the damage here)
174: Hall by decision over B. Jordan (PSU 13-12...Bo has beaten Hall before but just hasn't looked himself this year and Hall looks incredible...expect a close match though)
184: Martin by decision over Nickal (OSU 15-13...here is my somewhat bold prediction...Nickal looks amazing but Martin has improved this season by light-years...Myles is poised to win this one and I think he does it)
197: Moore by decision over Rasheed (OSU 18-13...Rasheed looks REALLY good and could present style matchup issues here...Moore has looked really good this year but if you are on upset alert, watch this one...just hope he pulls out the win)
Hvy: Snyder by major decision over Nevills (OSU 21-13...depending on what we need, Kyle could be going for the tech or pin here and I think he can do it....but if we only need a decision or major, I think that is what he gets us)

- Obviously this could vary quite a bit and even without Nolf, expect this to be extremely tight with PSU at home. Cannot wait for this dual, this is what you live for as a wrestling fan.

- EDIT: Just re-read @Delaware Buck 's post and pretty much what he said.

Just looked through the PSU lineup and they could conceivably bump Cortez up to 149 and Retherford to 157. Probably gives them the best chance to win the dual but we'll see. Either way, so amped you watch this tonight, this is what you live for as a wrestling fan.

There were some threads on the PSU site where they discussed that but the general consensus is that Cortez is done with a season ending injury.

Definitely excited about the match. Hope our guys come out and embrace the moment, wrestle aggressively and don't settle for decisions. I've been to two matches at Rec Hall in the last 30 years and the crowd is unlike anything else in college wrestling. They seem to will one or two upsets every match.

Oh I didn't know Cortez was injured...Zane will stay at 149 if that is the case and they'll just take the hit at 157. In my view, we win this dual if our guys stay off of our backs. Any of Retherford, Joseph or or Nickal are capable of pulling off a pin with their big move capability. We can drop those matches and win, just need to stay out of bonus territory other than on Retherford, although I will say Hayes is capable of keeping it to a decision.

Hopefully the only "upset" would be Lee over McKenna (in quotes because Lee is ranked higher). The only other upset I could see getting pulled off is maybe at 197, absolutely cannot lose that match. But yes, it is going to be a really fun one to watch. Can't wait.

WTF was that call? Also, Kuhn gets the start, Boise State transfer.

In college, that's a takedown because control can be awarded when it's established, not necessary in bounds if the move starts while they are both in bounds. In High School that throw is certainly out of bounds....I'm probably not explaining it well enough...
