Ohio State Women's Basketball (2023-24 B1G CHAMPS)

Ceiling seems to be Sweet 16 (under McGuff and Foster).
I have no expectations of belonging in the UConn/South Carolina and now USC/UCLA class. And then there’s the next tier of LSU, NC State, Notre Dame, Texas - all of whom have much better, far more accomplished coaches.

But consistent Sweet 16s and an Elite 8 every once in a while would be a nice step up. Been pretty much the same for 20 years. Would be nice to break through.

Couple that with missing out on all the talent Ohio produces and you've got to go "can we do better?"

Nice JCO. And if you add that these are all GUARDS (a McDuff specialty), it might look even worse when you add in the bigs to this list. Coaching technique was apparent last evening, as Tennessee constantly ran picks that switched off a guard on their big, who immediately went to the basket, took the lob pass for an uncontested lay-up. Announcers showed a page comparing 'contested' v 'uncontested' points scored, and this showed that tOSU didn't bother to play defense. Well, not so, but when their clear-out play rubbed off the big on big, it added to the uncontested part. Frustrating to we viewers, but doubly so for the players on the court. Happened to Jaloni more times than not. At least she was smart enough to not waste a foul trying to stop a shot occuring over her reach. Wish tOSU had a center that combined Eboni's savvy, Ajae's strength, and Elsa's length. Wouldn't that be a treat! PS, kept seeing all the players in sweats at the end of the bench, plus those injured, and no wonder the Buckeyes ran out of gas. They were playing 7 on 14 all game, and Tennessee coach leveraged those numbers all game. PSS, saw entire teams get substituted, and doggone it, did NOT see much of a drop off. Or at least enough that the Buckeyes could exploit. Go Bucks, hire Katie!

Those are all guards as previously mentioned and we ended up getting a couple of them as transfers (Gray and Shumate). Maybe just me but I could care less if we miss out on some guards as long as we hit on the bigs. I'm tired of constantly losing the paint battles that are required to win in the B1G and beyond.

Ohio State sophomore Faith Carson enters transfer portal

The center out of Michigan is the first player to announce their intent to join the portal

In seven games, Carson scored four points with eight rebounds. Carson’s first game accounted for two of those points and half of the rebounds when the then freshman played three minutes against IUPUI on Nov. 12, 2023.

The 6-foot-4 center did not win a spot in the usual rotation in her first season behind starting forward Rebeka Mikulášiková, with Taiyier Parks and Eboni Walker coming in for Mikulášiková. That meant Carson only played in games where Ohio State amassed big leads over their opponents.
