Game Thread Ohio State vs TCU (Arlington, TX) - 09/15/18, 8:00PM (ABC)

Ohio State had damn well better have the edge in most every category, considering how badly the Buckeyes out-recruit the Horned Frogs.

In the last four recruiting classes combined (2015-2018), Ohio State signed 98 recruits with a 247 Composite average ranking of 92.60, while Texas Christian signed 91 recruits with a 247 Composite average ranking of 86.58. That's a huge difference in talent.

During that 4-year period, OSU signed only 11 recruits who were lower-ranked that TCU's average recruit (and 3 of those signees were special teams players); and TCU signed only 7 recruits who were higher-ranked that OSU's average recruit.

In terms of recruiting classes:

2018: OSU #2 (94.29 average); TCU #25 (87.15 average)
2017: OSU #2 (94.59 average); TCU #28 (85.18 average)
2016: OSU #4 (91.56 average); TCU #21 (88.25 average)
2015: OSU #7 (90.31 average); TCU #39 (85.63 average)

On paper, this really shouldn't be very close. If it is close (or god forbid Ohio State loses), then I guess you'd have to blame the coaching.
I forgot one key factor: some of their more vocal fans outclass us in ego. Everything's bigger in that ridiculous state, assholes specifically. Sure it won't factor into the game plan but will make an tOSU victory that much more satisfying.

Meet the TCU fans behind the 2011 TCU-Ohio State billboard prank

upload_2018-9-14_17-32-50.png

Since the late 1980s, TCU football has been the bond that's kept John Runyon and eight of his fraternity brothers together. The past eight years, however, they've been bonded for another reason: the knowledge of having pulled off one of college football's most mysterious capers in recent history.

Saturday night in Arlington, Texas, the nine will reunite from across the country at AT&T Stadium, where their Horned Frogs will take on Ohio State. They'll be watching from a box that might as well be called the "Little Sisters of the Poor Suite."

Because, after all, they were the ones behind 20 billboards that popped up around Columbus, Ohio, eight years ago.

"That's my core crew, and win or lose, TCU football is what keeps us together," Runyon said. "And that passion we have is what fueled the billboard thing."

That billboard thing has only added to the buildup surrounding TCU's showdown with Ohio State.

Sure, both teams are nationally ranked. And, yes, ESPN's College GameDay will be in Fort Worth to preview the matchup.

The Horned Frogs also haven't forgotten about being left out of the inaugural College Football Playoff in 2014, when the selection committee put the eventual national champion Buckeyes in over TCU, who dropped from No. 3 to No. 6 on the final weekend, despite hammering Iowa State by 52 points.

Yet tension between TCU and Ohio State dates back to the backstretch of the 2010 season, when Gary Patterson's undefeated Horned Frogs were trying to become the first team from a mid-major conference to play for a BCS National Championship.

Then-Ohio State president Gordon Gee took issue with TCU's candidacy, suggesting that the Horned Frogs were only undefeated because they played the "Little Sisters of the Poor."

"I made that quip, unfortunately, but of course, I'm well known for making unfortunate quips," joked Gee, now president at West Virginia University, in an interview with ESPN.com. "I always thought they had a good football program. ... I thought it was just a funny statement."

Something I thought of today...Oklahoma last year beat a better offensive and better defensive TCU team 38-20 and then 41-17.

IMO this is a better defense than that Oklahoma team and I'll say an equal offensive team. Add that with a worse TCU team and IMO the potential is there to win very convincingly.

As long as we dont turn the ball over and force them to drive the field I could legit see 45-13 Type of game.

Just remembered another interesting tidbit while rewatching the boys. Anyone notice how many people from Oregon State and Rutgers got injured during our games and how few we had? It doesnt mean that they are super human or anything stupid like that, but I really think it speaks a lot to conditioning and Coach Marotti's work.

There were a good dozen players from OrSU and Rutgers go out and several of those didnt come back in. Just food for though.
I've noticed that a lot the past few years... I notice it with big time programs especially. Most just can't take the physicality that a program like tOSU or Alabama for example.

He may or may not be due, as he threw a pick vs SMU (as has already been pointed out).

But he will be playing against better athletes than he's seen up to this point. Here's hoping that the back 7 starts playing like it.
I really like our secondary and i like the fact that TCU doesnt use their TE at all. Our back 4 wasn't the issue with Oklahoma last year it was our LBs. Considering how little they use their backs/TEs this is outstanding for us.

I have full confidence that no WR is going off and that our DL will dominate. LBs simple have to contain the RB/QB and that's really it.
