Game Thread Ohio State vs Oklahoma, 09/09/17 @ 7:30 ET (ABC)

how about those Ohio State corners though... gonna be fun watching them gasp for air while Urban deals with heart issues again.
Last year, OSU had one of the most inexperienced, but also most athletic, secondaries in the entire country and still limited Mayfield & Co to 17 offensive points on your home turf. This year, we again have a very inexperienced, yet highly athletic, secondary but this time we get play in The Shoe. I can definitely see the Sooner offense being held under 20 points, and if that happens, game over.

Explain what champ
Here, let me go ahead and do the work for you, peaches.
Name a better QB this year, name a better O-line, and a better TE. OR you can play sarcastic and put words in my mouth because it makes you feel better
How am I putting words in your mouth, when your words were these:
OU has the best QB in college football, the best O-Line, the best TE... and superstar receivers like Jeff Badet, Cedee Lamb, and Grant Calcaterra. Not to mention explosive runningbacks like Abdul Adams and Trey Sermon. Beast utitily guy named Demitri Flowers. By Saturday you will know all these names. Best offensive mind in college football Lincoln Riley. What do you mean now what? OSU is literally facing the best offensive group in the entire nation... we can do whatever we want
So, I ask again....

Care to explain?

I think it might be too, and I think our showboating visitors might learn that some folks here feel that way, except they're too busy being ridiculous and can't talk football.
Well with all due respect J, I think you guys need to be a little bit more liberal in allowing us to voice our opinions without being too harsh on us. Granted, it's our job as visitors to respect the moderators and the Buckeye fans on this board and we must always play by the rules and refrain from insults, showboating, drawing unnecessary attention to ourselves, trolling, etc. But can't we all just loosen up and enjoy this game and the week leading up to it?

And as far as the list ranking Texass fans as the top visiting fans and OU fans second-to-worst ahead of Paterno/Sandusky U, that made me laugh a bit. OU fans may have a few rotten apples in their own fanbase, but I promise you we are closer to being Nebraska or even Oklahoma State fans (in terms of class and knowledge of the game) than being Miami, UF, U$C, or even Bama fans these days. Texass fans deliver great barbeque and Tex-Mex food at tailgates and Austin's a great city to visit (I interned there one time for two months), but their knowledge of college football isn't as high as yours, OU's or Nebraska's. I'd probably argue Texas A&M fans are a little bit better overall than Texass fans, but I have a sister and many friends who went to UT and got one hell of an education. UT ranks as the top public university in the South.

Now perhaps that list that ranked Texass fans as the top fanbase was a solid troll by one of your posters, but maybe you'll put OU fans at the top after Saturday because, well, using internet message boards to judge the quality of fans is not always the best method of doing so compared to meeting the actual fans in real life. Wouldn't you agree?

I mean hell, for all we know the MayfieldHeisman guy could be a legit Sooner or maybe a Texass or Michigan fan trying to stir the pot and either A) make OU fans look silly, or B) ruffle some feathers with Buckeye fans...

Silver Football winner. Barrett was named Big Ten co-Offensive Player of the Week. And yet, he gets criticized for not showing he can make a long down field pass? Or he's "inaccurate"?
WTF?
In the long and proud history of Ohio State football and the Big Ten he will have to ranked among it's greatest players. I'm talking Hop Cassidy, Red Grange, Archie Griffin,Chic Harley, on and on. Among the greatest!

The biggest improvement a football team can make is between weeks 1 and 2. Regardless if people want to ignore it, Indiana on the road to open the season in their super bowl game was a good test for the Buckeyes. It revealed some flaws that could be addressed this week. It allowed new personnel to be baptized in a moderately hostile environment.
I and 1000% sure Ohio State learned more about its team against IU than OU did against UTEP.
What does that mean? Probably nothing. Last year Ohio State humiliated Bowling Green at home and probably learned very little before going to Norman. However the difference then, as it is now, is Urban Meyer and how he prepares and challenges a team year round.

This will be a fun game. Wish I could be there. I've been to OKC for a softball tournament and I found the locals to be great fans and knew a lot about the Buckeyes as they did the Sooners or Cowboys. Won't let any blowhards on a message board change my mind on that. Respect for OU fans, program and traditions.

Go Bucks!

And as far as the list ranking Texass fans as the top visiting fans

Placing Texas on Best Fans List

1. - depending upon how you measure, Columbus is either Ohio's biggest city, or it's third biggest. As such, it is bigger than many "big league" cities. Despite this, there are no NFL, MLB, or NBA francises in the town and the city fathers/mothers like it that way.
2. - the game took place when Ohio State was still on the quarter system, which meant school started the third week in September and thus a bunch of student tickets would be up for grabs.
3. - so with the students gone, their seats were filled with people you would more likely spot at an NFL game. Many of these "Buckeye fans" acted like they'd never had a beer before - "liquid loud mouth" I call it. The trash talking, taunting, and fight picking got out of hand and Texas fans took to the media to let their displeasure be known.
4. - those of us who witnessed the treatment of Texas fans - and local TV added to the numbers - were appalled.
5. - I suspect that the high regard for Texas fans has much to do with the guilt felt for the way they were treated.

Yes. This new guy has been pretty respectful, just a bit hyperbolic. I think where we start to call shenanigans is when the 3rd-6th guy (who has a body of work of UTEP) at a position is getting juggernaut hype.

Texas fans have always aligned themselves with Michigan as a fanbase and a program (which is ironic on a number of levels). Having not interacted directly with your fanbase and only made observations from afar (about fans and the program), I think most would say our programs were closer than others in the B12. We certainly are not Nebraska fans whatsoever, so if you're hoping for that kind of hospitality on gameday, you'll be sorely mistaken (but I think the bad apples are well known at this point).

I need 10 real life OU fans to balance out the volume of questionable OU postings :p Anything less and the scales will remain tipped :p

Texas gave us an avalanche of posters and many of them were pretty darn good at talking football. Only a few were outrageous, and one was legendary (xrayrandy used to talk about Henry Melton and Jamaal Charles in a similar way in terms of athleticism).

Bottom line is we have the athletes to deal with pretty much anything OU can "throw" at us. But it will be exciting to watch because guys will still make plays on both sides. There is no excuse if we lose.

I could well be wrong, but as someone who feels no guilt, I assumed it was largely an individual award based on the quality of guys like High Lonesome and Engineerhorn. Of course, by that rationale, USC should probably have been top-4 based on methomps.
