official websiteFreshman Billy Stanley earned First Team All-America honors with a fourth-place finish in the javelin on the final day of the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday in Eugene, Ore.
"Bill Stanley had a tremendous impact as a true freshman with his fourth-place first team All-America javelin throw," Ohio State head coach Ed Beathea said. "We're proud of his efforts in helping our team to a 21st-place team finish. This is a great way to round out our season."
Stanley cleared 72.79 meters (238-10) on his sixth attempt to claim the first-ever All-America award for the Buckeyes in the javelin. Sam Humphreys of Texas A&M won the national title with a throw of 77.95 meters (255-09).
A native of South Park, Pa., Stanley closes his freshman campaign as the 2013 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Big Ten javelin champion and the Ohio State- and Big Ten-record holder in the event.
The Buckeyes concluded the NCAA championships with 11 points, good for 21st-place overall. The standing ranks as Ohio State's best finish since 2004.
