Ohio State Track and Cross Country (2020, 2021 B1G Women's outdoor Track Champs)

Where is Mr. Track:huh: I thought that the Buckeyes would place a little better than 8th in the Big Ten Indoors Championship. Maybe I was wrong with my hoping:( I was also wondering if anyone knew why this championship was held in Geneva Ohio... strange.
GENEVA, Ohio -Timothy Faust won the first conference title of his career, besting the field in the 200m and highlighting the final day of competition at the 2013 Big Ten Indoor Championships for the Ohio State men's track and field team.

Closing the meet with 40 points, Ohio State finished eighth overall. No. 10 Wisconsin won the team championship with 90 points, while Illinois placed second (87.50).

"I was encouraged by several performances over the weekend, especially Tim Faust winning the 200m and Chris Fallon earning a bronze in the mile," OSU head coach Ed Beathea said after the meet. "We need to continue to address our weak areas in recruiting with the focus on winning the conference."

Here's a complete recap of the day two of the championships from SPIRE Institute:

I'm not sure if this is the right spot for the post but.. I have a family friend who just ran a 14:52 in the XC 3 mile race as a Junior. He is a big fan of Ohio State, but hasn't heard from them at this point. I also noticed that the entire XC roster comes from the state of Ohio, does anyone have an experience with the process? Does Ohio State recruit nationally?

As a follow up, ran a 4:25.82 in the mile at the big Illinois indoor track meet today.

jumper Michael Hartfield won the long jump with a distance of 8.08 meters at the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. It was the top distance in the country this year and ranks third in Buckeyes history.

Billy Stanley cleared 72.16 meters in the javelin to win the event and set an Ohio State record. Stanley broke the 12-year-old record held by George Hoover.

Other Buckeye victories were by Donovan Robertson in the 110 hurdles (14.15 seconds) and Champ Page in the 400 hurdles (47.69).

Honors and historical success suggest there is a weight of expectations on Alexis Thomas, whose specialty involves twirling in a circle four times and throwing a 20-pound ball attached to a wire.

Thomas is the reigning Big Ten champion in the hammer throw, was named the league’s field athlete of the year in 2012 and in March earned first-team All-America honors in the weight throw, an indoor track and field event.

Such credentials, however, don’t have the Ohio State senior feeling pressure as she prepares to defend her hammer throw title Friday, on the first of the three-day Big Ten track and field outdoor championships at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Nor is Thomas concerned about how far the competition might throw or anything else before stepping into the same circle where she broke her OSU hammer throw record on April 20 with a toss of 65.48 meters (214 feet, 10 inches) at the Owens Classic.

The breeze in his face and miles beneath his feet carry Chris Fallon to a place of truth, as if clarity is best served by running.

“It’s such a pure thing,” Fallon said. “In running, you only get out of it what you put into it. That’s what I love about it. Running is a way to live your life.”

Fallon must be living right, for the fifth-year senior at Ohio State has never run better than he has entering the Big Ten track and field outdoor championships, a three-day event that begins today at OSU’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

“This year was a big breakout year for me,” said Fallon, of Copley, Ohio.

An injury-filled career is winding down in storybook fashion for Fallon, who hopes to continue his unparalleled personal success in recent weeks when he toes the line in the preliminary heat of the men’s 1,500 meters on Saturday.

The 1,500 is stacked with talent, led by Indiana’s Andy Bayer, the defending NCAA outdoors champion. In all, six participants have run the equivalent of a sub-4-minute mile this spring, not including Wisconsin’s Austin Mudd, third-place finisher in the NCAA indoor mile.

“All these guys can be in the final of the NCAA,” said Fallon, a two-time first-team All-American in the mile and distance relay and a member of the distance medley team that holds the OSU record.

After placing seventh in the Big Ten in 2012, Fallon enjoyed a strong indoor season this winter — in which he became the 390th American to break the 4-minute mile barrier — and it’s carried over.

Ohio State’s Michael Hartfield won his third consecutive long jump title at the Big Ten track and field championships yesterday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Hartfield cleared 25 feet, 23/4 inches to become the first Buckeyes athlete to win three straight titles in the long jump. Teammate Korbin Smith was sixth (23-111/2).

The 10 points from Hartfield helped the 23rd-ranked Buckeyes to a total of 23 points and fifth place, trailing first-place Nebraska (461/2). The three-day meet will conclude today beginning at 11 a.m.

In the decathlon, Kory Kunze was sixth (7,227) and Heath Nickles was seventh (7,150) for Ohio State.

Five Buckeyes qualified for finals today, in addition to the 400-meter relay team.

Timothy Faust won preliminary heats in the 100 meters (10.63 seconds) and 200 (20.8). Chris Fallon won his heat in the 1,500 (3:45.02). Donovan Robertson was third in the 110 hurdle preliminaries and Demoye Bogle sixth to reach the final. Antonio Blanks was third in his heat to reach the 400 hurdle final.

No one likes track and field:(
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Michael Hartfield and freshman Billy Stanley won Big Ten crowns on the final day of competition at the 2013 Big Ten Outdoor Championships Sunday afternoon at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, helping No. 23 Ohio State to a sixth-place team finish.

Hartfield won his second conference title of the weekend, following up his win in the long jump Saturday with a Sunday victory in the triple jump. Clearing 15.62m (51-3.00) on his second attempt, the Manchester, Conn., native edged Minnesota’s Oladipo Fagbemi (15.51m/50-10.75) for the gold medal. He is the first Buckeye to double up in the triple and long jumps at the Big Ten outdoor championships since Joe Greene in 1989.

Stanley won the first Big Ten title of his career in impressive fashion, setting a Big Ten meet- and Ohio State school-record of 75.23m (246-10.00) on his first attempt to capture gold. Runner-up honors went to Iowa’s Matt Byers (72.45m/237-8.00).

Very solid NCAA Preliminary Round for OSU. Qualifiers to the national finals are:

Tim Faust - 200 meters
Chris Fallon - 1500 meters
Demoye Bogle - 110 hurdles
Antonio Blanks - 400 hurdles
Billy Stanley - Javelin Throw
Mike Hartfield - Long Jump
Korbin Smith - Long Jump
4x100 (Devin Smith, Nick Batcha, Demoye Bogle, Tim Faust)
4x400 (Champ Page, Korbin Smith, Marvel Brooks, Antonio Blanks)

Very nice to see both relays have good runs. Bogle run in the 110s was just .01 off his PR and a big season's best. Glad Korbin finally made nationals as an individual, as well, after finishing 13th here two years ago (top 12 qualify) and tying for the final spot indoors this year only to lose out based on his second best jump being something like 2 inches shorter than the guy he tied with.

Bad meet for the throwers, but they are young and posted some very promising marks going forward.

I'll try to do a year-in-review type post when I get a chance after nationals.

I love it too. I grew up running CC and Track among other sports. I just wish we could keep the best distance runners home. At least when I was paying attention it seemed the best distance runners left the state.

I realize this is the men's thread. But the same applies to women. If you want to become good you need to keep the Treniere (Clement) Moser's of the world at home.

Repeat from a post above. The same applies to the women's Track & Field & CC

It would be nice if one of the moderators would rename this thread to the Official Ohio State Men's Track & Field and Cross-Country thread… Thanks.

Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus has been a track and field mecca since first playing host to runners, throwers and jumpers in 1921.

“There’s an excitement and thrill to being part of that historic arena as an athlete or coach,” Ohio State women’s coach Karen Dennis said.

Legends are made at Hayward Field, where the Eugene community traditionally has filled the seats with raucous enthusiasm, most notably when Steve Prefontaine ran to glory in the early 1970s.

Six Ohio State women and 11 members of the No. 21-ranked Buckeyes men’s team will try to create their own Hayward memories by competing there in the NCAA outdoor championships today through Saturday.

“It’ll be a totally different feeling for a lot of these guys,” men’s coach Ed Beathea said. “A lot of these guys will always remember this.”

Based on national rankings, Michael Hartfield and Billy Stanley are the Buckeyes’ best chances of winning individual national championships, something a member of the OSU men’s team hasn’t accomplished since Chris Nelloms won the 200 meters in 1993.

Hartfield, a senior from Manchester, Conn., heads into the long jump competition on Thursday with the nation’s third-longest leap this season. His jump of 26 feet, 9 inches on March 30 broke Jesse Owens’ OSU outdoor record that had stood for 77 years.

“Michael is sitting in a really good spot in the long jump,” Beathea said. “He has really been jumping well, and he’s really motivated to have a good showing.”

Hartfield is a three-time second-team All-American and has been named the top field athlete at the Big Ten championships the past two years. He placed 10th in last year’s NCAA meet.

Stanley was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year last month after winning a conference title in the javelin with a throw of 246-10, which broke his own OSU record for a third time and set the conference mark, too.

A second-place finish at the NCAA East Regional on May 24 was the first time in nearly two years that Stanley, a native of South Park, Pa., failed to win a javelin competition. He will throw on Saturday ranked No. 6 in the nation.

I'll to a little updating, though I can't promise to update Friday and Saturday results in a timely manner (sorry, busy right now...)

Wednesday
4x100 Relay - 40.08, finished 4th in their heat and 17th overall. A few tenths slower than their regional time but they would have needed a huge season PR to make the finals.
400m Hurdles - Antonio Blanks finished in 51.74, good for 6th in his heat and 15th overall. Again, a little slower than his regional time and would have needed to set a PR by one full second to make the finals.

Thursday
200m - Timothy Faust finished 7th in his heat and 19th overall, 20.70. Good experience for the sophomore.
1500m - Christopher Fallon finished 10th in his heat and 17th overall, 3:44.62.
110m Hurdles - Demoye Bogle finished 4th in his heat and 13th overall, 13.87.
4x400m Relay - 6th in their heat, 20th overall, 3:08.18. Would have needed to run a season's best by 3 seconds to qualify for the finals... that's a lot at this level of competition.
Long Jump - Corbin Smith jumped a seasons best 7.56m (24' 9.75") to finish 15th overall
Long Jump - Mike Hartfield - One Ohio State's two best chances at a national finished in a respectable 3rd place with a jump of 7.96m (26' 1.50"). The winner was a full foot ahead of 2nd place, no one was catching him. Great senior year and great career for Mike!

I believe the only Buckeye left to compete is Freshman Bill Stanley competing in the javelin Saturday. If he has a good day he has a shot at finishing in the top 5.

Agreed. The biggest recent miss is Lancaster's Brandon Kidder who went to Penn State. He's in the finals of the 800m... as a freshman. He could easily do the 800/1500 double and score high in both as he grows stronger at this level.

And LitlBuck will remember our conversation about Gahanna's sprinter Blake Herriot who ended up choosing Baylor. He finished 12th in the 400m on Wednesday (one of his slower times of the year) and anchored their 4x400 to a spot in the finals.
