Game Thread Ohio State @ Purdue - 10/20/18, 7:30PM (ABC)

Path =

First never underestimate the power of ESPN. We need Bama to win out. A one loss Bama gets in over us even without winning SEC. Then a GA or LSU. There is still a path for them to get two. The problem isn’t the loss, it’s they we lost BIG to a team a 3-3 Purdue team that lost to E. Michigan

Okay but Bama plays LSU. They also probably play GA in the SEC title, right? I really have no idea about the SEC standings. So....ALL OF THOSE TEAMS ALREADY PLAYED EACH OTHER.

I have a feeling, Bama got in over us for two reasons....

Iowa (2nd loss)
The simple fact GA won the SEC instead of Auburn.....who they already played

Fuck, not even joking.. I refused to watch the Natty last year bc I knew it was theoretically a game I could catch on a regular season Nov.

Imagine if they had already played?? It's a different story.

I just think Tressel built his team with most of 3/4 star players with a few 5s sprinkled in and coached them up. Heck a lot of times it was the high end 4s and 5s that turned out to be busts even under Tressel. I think now we're too worried about individual talent and not enough about how they fit on the field. Same with the coaches.

Another thing to speak in favor of Tressel is to see how many coaches he's created out of his players. Heck Hartline is probably our best offensive position coach and it's because he was fundamentally sound and made the most of his athleticism which to be frank, is lacking compared to probably our entire wideout stable. And Marcus Freeman down at Cincinnati would be the ideal LB coach if we could run Bill Davis out of town.
Jim IMO was the better coach... he won with less.

Love Urban but his teams arent disciplined, they're wildly erratic, and its all boom or bust.
Like I said I knew what i was getting with Tress but with UFM who knows?

Said it last year and I'll say it again... I know for sure now that I'd rather have Jim Tressel.

The reason? Consistency.

We knew we would play great defense, be well disciplined, and our offense would generate 28-42 points. UFMs program is so volatile! We can beat you 77-0 or we could have the brakes beat off of us by Purdue and everything in between.

Maybe we dont have the 2014 Natty but I assure you we have win the big ten at least twice in the past 6 seasons (matching UFM).

I'm not saying this out of rage either... its my preference. I would rather know what I'm going to get over such a wild array of outcomes.

Jim Tressel record at OSU: 106-22 (.808)

Urban Meyer record at OSU: 80-9 (.899)

Head to head in 2006 NC game Meyer beat the dog shit out of Tressel. Made him and his coaching staff look foolish.

It may not be out of rage but it damn sure isn't logic from which you speak

And Jim Tressel (I love him) lorded over perhaps the weakest Big Ten in my lifetime. Cooper and Bruce didn't get to line up against Rich Rodriguez and John L Smith coached teams.

Agree, love Tressel and it'll be hard for anyone to replace him as my favorite coach. But he had plenty of flaws and it's silly to think that this team would compete any better on a national stage with him.

Pardon me if I don't indulge in your delusion.

Not like I have to go that far back for inspiration.

Same argument you hit me with last year lol... and I understand.

Let me ask you something though... with Tressel how many big ten titles do we win between 2011 through 2017? Does Tressel manage 2 like Urban? I think he does.

So what really would be the difference?

Everyone damn well knows that 2006 game was a buzz saw though. They were the heavy under dog and went against a team that had heard how great they were for 2 months.

I'm not wishing for it but maybe this team needs to get it's ass kicked by TTUN to turn things around. Way too complacent. Players just looking for the NFL looking to cake walk every game, Assistants looking for the next promotion. Assuming every game is given.

Whoa whoa whoa....

Step away from the alcohol slowly. Now I'm just gonna slowly put this straightjacket on you......

Come on. And Dantonio maybe Urban look foolish with lesser talent. If Tressel recruited like Meyer he could have a better record. That is the difference. Meyer is truly the best recruiter in the game
