Game Thread Ohio State @ Purdue - 10/20/18, 7:30PM (ABC)

Besides winning out, we probalaby need some help to get into the CFPs. I'll guess we would still be behind an undefeated Alabama, Clemson, and ND team in addition to a 1 loss Big XII Champion Oklahoma team. For us to have a chance a couple of those 4 teams need to lose a game or 2.

If not, (considering how few starters we had returning this year) I would actually consider winning out and beating the Pac 12 Champion in the Rose Bowl a sucessful season.

Bama needs to win and just one of the other three needs to lose one, IMO. B1G 1 loss champ is still in a favorable position.

Let's spend the next two weeks on getting right and Nebraska before we can worry about anything else though.

Playoff really depends on *ichigan. The hype is real about them and only getting bigger now after this loss. Buckeyes win out, they have an argument. A lot of season left. Wouldn't mind seeing Texas in a bowl again. Fuck this talk. FUCK MICHIGAN

I couldn't handle the outside noise if he left this season. I bet he leaves after this year though, regardless of what happens.

Given the apparent flareup of health issues due to all the preseason stress, I don't think it would be surprising to anyone, but yeah it would create a lot of noise.

I'm inching closer towards that feeling that he'll step back after the season, though I hope it would be temporary to address his health and get some fire back...as of now.

Sorry for the long post ahead but I just need to vent, I'm a new member here, and the truth is I wasn't born in an American Football country, in fact I was about 14 by the time I fell in love with your (American) football. At that time there was a channel named ESPN America that played all the major American sports league games, and ncaa football and basketball games, and for some reason one day the scarlet and gray were on TV. It was love at first sight, and I can't really explain to you why, maybe it was the Block O, maybe it was the tradition, maybe it was The Vest, or maybe it was Terrelle Pryor's quarterbacking style, but ever since then I barely lost an Ohio State football game. Bare in mind that I've been through a lot of heartbreak, like the MSU B10 conference championship loss, the Penn State lost 2 years ago, both Clemson losses, but also experienced a lot of joy, like only seeing the Bucks lose to TTUN once, and obviously the Playoff games in '14, I actually pulled an all nighter just to watch the Oregon game, but man the next day it didn't event matter I was so happy I barely skipped a beat.

But with that being said I have to express just the absolute void left by both losses to Purdue and of course to Iowa. How is it that a team so freaking talented can lose both those games in that fashion, without fighting, being out coached, its just so embarrassing. I love Urban, but his nepotism is costing our program, big time. You can't have guys like Zach Smith, Bill Davis or Studrawa coaching our guys just because you've got a personal attachment to them. The WR's were trash, and you didn't even need the scandal to have an excuse to fire Smith, the LB's are pathetic, and the OL has gone from having gritty players to soft, mentally unprepared guys. How is it that we keep getting multiple top 3 recruiting classes, but for some reason that metric isn't being evidenced on the field of play. Has Urban lost his edge ? I don't know, he's been a great coach for our program, but with the amount of talent we're having on our rosters every year we've been under performing. You can't lose to MSU in '15 because you didn't want to hand the ball to one of the best RB's The Ohio State has ever seen, you can't keep Barrett in the game while getting your asses handed to you by Clemson, etc... That's why Saban is Saban, he doesn't give a f****, he'll fire you, he'll pull you out of a game, and f***ing embarrass you just to win.
I see people saying just beat TTUN, and win the Big 10, but with the amount of talent we have, its not enough, it just isn't, its always good to beat TTUN and win the conference, but we should be in the playoff every single year, we should be in the final every single year, and we aren't because of the amount of wrong and incomprehensible coaching mistakes by guys who have multi-million dollars wages.

Like I said I love Urban, and I believe that a fired up Urban, a willing Urban, an Urban Meyer with that edge, is the best coach we can ever have, but this Urban, the one that keeps shooting himself in the foot, that Urban, i'm not so sure....
Said it last year and I'll say it again... I know for sure now that I'd rather have Jim Tressel.

The reason? Consistency.

We knew we would play great defense, be well disciplined, and our offense would generate 28-42 points. UFMs program is so volatile! We can beat you 77-0 or we could have the brakes beat off of us by Purdue and everything in between.

Maybe we dont have the 2014 Natty but I assure you we have win the big ten at least twice in the past 6 seasons (matching UFM).

I'm not saying this out of rage either... its my preference. I would rather know what I'm going to get over such a wild array of outcomes.

Last year all over again, one thing to lose, but to just give up against Purdon't shows this team doesn't have heart or deserve to be ranked let alone go to a damn playoff.

Right on track to be a #4 seed to play bama

Only way we're getting in is if we beat every remaining team by a combined score of 250-6, and that ain't happening.

Sometimes I feel this board doesn't watch the rest of the country. 1 loss B1G champ is a lock.

Jeezus, just stop and be thankful we won't be in the playoff. Maybe it's just me, but getting our stools pushed into our brains by Alabama - or getting stomped (again) by Clemson in the semi finals - doesn't give me warm fuzzies.

This team battled to beat 3-4 TCU and got bitch-slapped by 4-3 Purdue. Do you really want any part of a playoff? Be serious. :roll1:

I just think Tressel built his team with most of 3/4 star players with a few 5s sprinkled in and coached them up. Heck a lot of times it was the high end 4s and 5s that turned out to be busts even under Tressel. I think now we're too worried about individual talent and not enough about how they fit on the field. Same with the coaches.

Another thing to speak in favor of Tressel is to see how many coaches he's created out of his players. Heck Hartline is probably our best offensive position coach and it's because he was fundamentally sound and made the most of his athleticism which to be frank, is lacking compared to probably our entire wideout stable. And Marcus Freeman down at Cincinnati would be the ideal LB coach if we could run Bill Davis out of town.

We are comparing a coach with an 83% winning percentage to one with an almost 90% winning percentage (was over 90% before tonight). At a school that has won 73% of its games all time. Fuck Purdue and Iowa, it is good to be a Buckeye even when it sucks.

Fuck no... I want none of anyone in the top 10.

If we can manage to beat Michigan that'd be a great ending. Other wise I want no part of the playoffs.

Luckily with another shit performance like tonight we won't get invited. Does us no good to get embarressed on national TV. AGAIN.

Yes. For every 2016 Clemson, there is a 2002 Miami or 2014 Alabama.

You're romanticizing a coach that got taken to the woodshed twice by Pete Carroll and USC. OSU was running high school plays against them two years in a row and paid dearly for it.

Yes. For every 2016 Clemson, there is a 2003 Miami or 2014 Alabama.

Hope springs eternal.
