The secret of Ohio State's success against Sparty.....
....MUSCLE MILK?
I like how there are a lot of OSU fans (none over here) that are shitting all over this win after praying all week to whatever deity listening that we would just win the game. Honestly any time we play Sparty, I'm generally just happy to get any kind of win. Dantonio has been a thorn in our side for too long.
The freshman didn't fall on the ball like he was supposed to.Didn't realize Michael Jordan was a freshman?

Bad snaps are going to happen (and Jordan's qualifications for Center are a topic for another discussion). But fans always love the backup QB, and the highly touted recruit with little experience. But the coaches are going to be worried that the freshman will do something like that desperate backwards pass that Adrian Martinez tried in the Nebraska game.
Except this isn't the typical fans loving the backup QB situation. No one here is suggesting that Martell should supplant Haskins. What we have here is an offense that under Haskins has shown an ability of late to move the ball down the field, only to come to a grinding halt in the red zone. Martell, with his ability to run, can help in that aspect of the game.
Yes. Not saying replace Dwayne but just give Tate some looks when his running abilities can help us outExcept this isn't the typical fans loving the backup QB situation. Bingo. Even Joel Klatt mentioned during the broadcast that this isn't a change of quarterbacks but a situational thing. Opposing defense totally blow off Haskins in the read option and crash down on the RB...they can't do that with Martell lest they get burned.Except this isn't the typical fans loving the backup QB situation. During the game I complained that Martell didn't keep the ball on any of the read options. I now think the staff may be setting something up for The Game, where they'll allow Martell to keep the ball and run and even pass off the option...
@Greyshirt, can we get you to post again?
Last time you sparked the D. Would like to see Haskins with a complete drive this time.
This game went almost exactly as I had feared.
MSU special teams are brutal. The punt return team is a horrific. And the punter is literally a walk on after #1&2 both went down. Like they had open tryouts after school started.
OSU needs to get better. And more specifically in the trenches. They do not have an identity on offense. Haskins is not accurate enough to do the dink and dunk QB and the line is not getting near enough movement up front to have a strict drop back passer run a pro style offense.
I would agree that come Red Zone I would consider using that backup QB exclusively. It at the very least creates opportunities.
The one thing I didn't understand was taking Martell out after he took it to the 1-yard line. Why not run a hurry-up second play from the one instead of switching QBs back and letting the defense substitute knowing that the ball is now on the one?Martell's first play was in the 2nd quarter. I think Ohio State had first and goal at the 7, and he ran the read option, keeping it for 6 yards. They then took him out and the next play was a 0-yard play. The third down play was the pop-pass/sweep to Campbell.
