Ohio State Men's Tennis (2014/2019/2024 ITA Indoor National Champs, 17 Straight B1G Titles)

This year is going to be fun! Cant wait to see what the youth brigade contributes to the cause but right now they are playing like champions.
Cash gave a battle to Northwester grad Kirch but fell in straights.
Trotter won his match in straight sets. Wow he looks solid.
17 year old early entry fresh J Boulais is a name you will be hearing. His sister is #1 for osu women's team. And the talent pool is obviously shared.
Boulais recd a wildcard entry. But clawed his way to 2 tie breakers and prevailed in both.
US open semifinalist and Buckeye Freshman Cannon Kingsley is on campus and is in the mix already. Won his first set vs pro Evan Song.
McNally is also looking lethal as he attempts an upset vs Geerts.

Back last Spring I thought that this year would be "National Championship" fun. Kind of disappointed that JJ Wolfe decided to not return for his senior year. But I guess one man's departure is another man's opportunity and as they say in football: Next Man Up.

Recap of the action from the official site.

Re: Senior Kyle Seelig is also in the main draw and will play Diego Hildalgo in the opening round. The winner of that match will play OSU All-American JJ Wolf in the second round. Mikael Torpegaard, who is the No. 2 seed in the tournament, is also waiting for a second round opponent. There are also three doubles teams with OSU ties in the doubles draw.

Just sayin': A Torpegaard vs Wolfe (i.e. 2 former Ohio State #1s) match would be interesting.

Early season predictions were released by the ITA pollsters today and as predicted McNally and Seelig were included in top 30.

Bucks will have Lots of holes to fill in the lineup but the talent is obvious. I would expect to see Kingsley, Boulais and possibly Trotter in the top 125 singles rankings by January.
Looks like Alex Kobelt, 2019 Buck grad landed at unlv and garnered some points from his solid indoor play.
Also love to see Young Bucks dubs pairs in top 60.
It takes some savvy prognosticators to anticipate and place unproven dubs pairs in early rankings.

After an outstanding match yesterday, Osu freshman Boulais was leading the #14 seed serving for the set 5-3. He got broke twice and also lost the first set tie breaker.
Kingsley won his first set vs. #5 seed, Former ncaa champion atp number 205 ranked kwiatkowski.
Seelig is facing Hidalgo and a couple buckeye dubs teams play later.

A couple of former Buckeyes got their Columbus Challenger started in a positive manner on Wednesday as both JJ Wolf and Mikael Torpegaard won to advance to the third round.

Wolf was playing a familiar foe in fellow teammate Kyle Seelig. Wolf’s serve was dominant in the opening set in route to a 6–3 victory. He then won the match with aa 6–2 triumph in the second. Wolf will play No. 3 seed Michael Mmoh on Thursday.

Torpegaard breezed through the first set 6-2 against Alexander Erler. The two were on serve throughout the second and Erler was able to pull even with a 7-1 win in the tiebreak. But Torpegaard turned the tables and would take the third and deciding set 6-1. He faces Belgium native Michael Geerts in the third round.

Wolf is playing focused and returning as well as I have seen. He took out the 1 seed today and advances to the challenger final at noon tomorrow.

JJ Wolf picked up a pair of victories on Friday and Saturday at the Columbus Challenger to advance to Sunday’s championship match. The Cincinnati native will face No. 4-seed Peter Polansky.

Wolf dropped the opening set to Gabriel Petit in his quarterfinal match on Friday but rallied to win the following two sets 6-4, 6-1. He then rolled to a 6-2, 7-6(5) victory over the top-seed Emilio Gomez on Saturday afternoon. Gomez was ranked No. 166 in the ATP World Rankings.

The championship match will begin at Noon on Sunday at the Varsity Tennis Center on Henderson Rd.

Mikael Torpegaard also made a solid run this week but he fell in the quarterfinals on Friday to Roberto Quiroz 7-6(5), 7-6(4).

This blue chip from Carolina projects a good addition for 2020 recruiting. High ceiling and has the tools to excel.
Not sure how much scholarship options are available; 2020 may be a small class; with 4 from 2019 class on the roster and only Seelig will have exhausted all his eligibility in 2020.

Another "blue chip" tennis player they should recruit:
