Ohio State Men's Tennis (2014/2019/2024 ITA Indoor National Champs, 17 Straight B1G Titles)

Yes Callahan needed to close out that tb. Up an early break in the 2nd,
Looks like the wheels have come off for Steinbach trailing 4-0 now in the 3rd.
A second tie-break drop and our guys lose 4-3.

They haven't seemed to be in the same groove since winning the Indoors. I wonder if they are a little tired at this point. Beating up on some chumps such as Michigan should get them rested for the outdoor tourney.

Is anyone going to be at the OSU-MSU match on Sunday? I think I am going to go. It's a good thing the basketball bucks play on Thurs/Sat.

I am planning to be at this NCAA historic event!
For the record a Buckeye win Friday over tsun would extend the consecutive home win streak to 184, which would tie the all time NCAA mark for home wins for any team in div 1 athletics. Pretty notable record that will be!
Hope there are 1000 plus in attendance at the varsity indoor tennis center to bring home this mark and put the wolverines out of their misery.
Go Bucks!

The ITA rankings were released on Tuesday and the Buckeyes slipped to #2.
Not bad after dropping 2 on the road.
The next 4 matches will likely determine the winner of the B1G regular season, Tsun, MSU, NW, and Illinois.
The official site previews this Weekends matches,
Every win over tsun is sweet, butFriday night will be legendary.

COLUMBUS, Ohio– After nine days off, the No. 2 Ohio State men’s tennis team returns to Big Ten play this weekend hosting No. 44 Michigan Friday at 6 p.m. at Varsity Tennis Center. The team will then travel to Michigan State for a road match at Noon Sunday in East Lansing, Mich.

The Buckeyes (17-2, 2-0 B1G) aim to break a two-match skid with a win, while the Wolverines (8-5, 1-0 B1G) travel to Columbus after splitting a doubleheader March 15 in Ann Arbor. The Spartans (6-8, 0-1 B1G) host Penn State this weekend before facing the Scarlet and Gray on Sunday.

ONE HOME WIN AWAY FROM HISTORYWith a victory over Michigan Friday night, the Buckeyes would tie the NCAA all-time home win streak record in any varsity sport. Stanford women’s tennis holds the NCAA home win streak record, claiming 184-consecutive wins from 1999-2011.

Just how long is 11 years? It’s been close to 4,000 days to the date since the team last lost in Columbus (Illinois; April 5, 2003) and tennis star Roger Federer had zero Grand Slams to his credit. Consider the following when you flash back to 2003:

  • Ohio State Football wins its seventh national championship over Miami in double OT.
  • An average gallon of gas in the Great State of Ohio: $1.49
  • George W. Bush is the 43rd President of the United States
  • Apple creates iTunes Music Store
  • The United States Department of Homeland Security begins operation
  • Roger Federer wins first Grand Slam in July at Wimbledon
  • LeBron James makes his NBA debut with the Cleveland Cavaliers
  • Blackberry introduces first modern “smart phone”
  • “In da Club” by 50 Cent – was No. 1 on the music charts
This year, Ohio State holds an 11-0 mark at home with key wins over No. 8 Texas A&M (4-3; Feb. 9) and No. 12 North Carolina (4-1; Feb. 28) at the Varsity Tennis Center.

A LOOK AT MICHIGANThe Buckeyes trail Michigan in their overall head-to-head 30-67-3, but Ohio State has gone 18-2 since head coach Ty Tuckerjoined the program in 1999. Last season, the Buckeyes defeated the Wolverines twice, a 4-0 victory at Ann Arbor to clinch the regular-season B1G title and a 4-0 victory in the B1G Tournament final in Columbus. Alex Petrone is the lone representative in the ITA singles rankings for Michigan, coming in at No. 112. Barrett Franks and Alex Buzzi (No. 22) and Shaun Bernstein/Kevin Wong (No. 52) highlight the Wolverines in the doubles rankings....
gO BUCKS!
