Congratulations to the entire Buckeye team, especially Buchanan and Rola.

It has been a lot of fun following the team on here throughout the year. I looked back recently at the Archives on the OSU tennis site, and came to realize that until 2006 the Buckeye tennis team had only been the Big Ten champions one time (1943). And now, the last decade OSU has accomplished so much as a tennis program. I am really happy to see the direction the program is going. The National Title won by Buchanan and Rola today is a great reward to those guys for all of the hard work they have put in, and it is a reward as well to all of the other players throughout Tucker's tenure who have laid the groundwork to build this program to where it is.

I hope next year we can add to this with a Team National Title!

Go Bucks!

Great Job guys!:oh::io::gobucks3::gobucks4::osu3::osu2::osu3::osu2:

Lots of hardware is on display at the Varsity Indoor tennis center so that will probably be the home for the double's championship trophy.

Here is the Recap of the championship double's performance from the official site.

Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola, members of the Ohio State men?s tennis team, made history Monday afternoon when they beat Raony Carvalho and Gonzalo Escobar of Texas Tech 7-6(4), 6-3 in the 2012 NCAA Division I Men?s Tennis Doubles Championship match. With the victory, Buchanan and Rola became the first tandem in history to win all three major collegiate championships in one season ? D?Novo/ITA All-America Championships, USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships and NCAA Championships.
?They have done a great job together and they?re both captains,? Ty Tucker, head coach, said. ?They always came to play and they complement each other so well, it?s unbelievable what they have accomplished. I?m extremely proud of both of them. Nobody deserves this more than Chase and now Blaz too.?
The Buckeye duo, which entered the tournament as the No. 1 team and seed, went 14-0 during the three championship runs and for the season amassed a 36-4 overall record. Additionally, the pair went 18-1 vs. nationally-ranked opponents.
?We found out about the triple crown yesterday,? Rola said. ?We certainly felt the adrenaline rush on the match points and it felt great to be able to have that opportunity. So many great doubles teams have played in college tennis and to be the only team to accomplish this is unbelievable.?
?We spend a ton of time together every day at home and we have a great relationship,? Buchanan, a three-time All-American, said. ?We?ve played together for the past two years now pretty much and we obviously practice together a lot. We understand where we can help each other and what positions on the court are best suited for our styles. We do a great job of understanding what we do well on the court together.?

Despite being down a break early in the first set (3-1), Buchanan and Rola were back on serve entering the ninth game (4-4) and took a 5-4 lead before a rain delay forced play indoors. Both teams remained on serve until the Buckeyes took control in the first-set tiebreaker, winning 7-4. Buchanan and Rola jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the second set and held their break throughout the set for the eventual 6-3 final.

The contest served as the final collegiate match for Buchanan, a senior from New Albany, Ohio. With 112 career doubles victories, Buchanan is sixth in the Buckeye records book and having collected 44 doubles wins in 2011-12, owns the Ohio State single-season doubles record. He finished his career with a 108-24 singles record, including a 32-7 ledger in 2011-12. The 108 wins ties him for 10th all-time in the Ohio State records book. Buchanan?s 220 combined singles and doubles wins places him sixth at Ohio State.
Rola, a sophomore from Slovenia, is second at Ohio State in single-season doubles victories with 43. Advancing to the semifinals of the 2012 NCAA Singles Championship, Rola finished the season with a team-leading 37 wins.

19-1 vs. nationally ranked opponents, just an incredible season for this buckeye tandem!
The triple crown record is unique, never attained before and probably will never be reached again!

Looking forward to next year with Rola and hearing about some highly regarded international students looking hard at this special coach and program.

Buckeyes ended the season ranked #4 in the year end ITA computer poll, following #1 USC, #2 UVa, #3 UCLA, and ahead of #5 Georgia.

Anyone know which counts for the Director's cup points--
Quarterfinal finish in the NCAA tournament or
Final ITA Ranking?

I think the NCAA tournament but the Director's Cup will probably stay with Stanford for a long time... unfortunately.

The way they award points for championships with a tournament is that all of the quarterfinal teams that lost get credit for a 5th place finish.

From the Official tennis site.

- Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola, members of the Ohio State men's tennis team, earned 2012 All-America honors in singles and doubles, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Thursday.

The pair of Buckeyes made NCAA history in May when they became the first doubles tandem to win all three major collegiate championships in one season - D'Novo/ITA All-America Championships, USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships and NCAA Championships. Buchanan and Rola went 14-0 during the three championship runs and for the season amassed a 36-4 overall record. Additionally, the pair went 18-1 vs. nationally-ranked opponents.
Buchanan, who wrapped up his senior season with the Buckeyes as a five-time All-American, collected 112 career doubles victories, which places him sixth in the Buckeye records book. The New Albany, Ohio, native's 44 doubles wins in 2011-12 propelled him to the top of the Ohio State single-season doubles record. Overall, he finished his career with a 108-24 singles record, including a 32-7 ledger in 2011-12. The 108 wins ties him for 10th all-time in the Ohio State records book and his 220 combined singles and doubles wins places him sixth at Ohio State. Rola, a three-time All-American from Slovenia, is second at Ohio State in single-season doubles victories with 43. Advancing to the semifinals of the 2012 NCAA Singles Championship, Rola, who just completed his sophomore campaign, finished the season with a team-leading 37 wins

Awesome..just curious..He ends up sixth all time twice..who holds the records for doubles and single doubles combined?

The 2012 Buckeye Record book (page 5-6) shows that assistant coach Justin Kronauge holds the team record for most single's wins in a career--147.
Kronauge also holds the record for the most career double's wins--133.
Kronauge's trifecta is completed with the career combined wins total of 280.

The single season record for doubles was shattered by Buchanan and also Rola this year.
The previous single season double's record was 38 held by Ross Wilson in 2005.
The 2012 total double's wins by Buchanan (45) and also Rola (44) set a new mark in OSU tennis history.

Just a note if Blaz Rola stays all 4 years as a Buckeye, he will be postured favorably to surpass Coach Kronauge's records in career single's, double's and combined wins.
After his sophomore year, Rola has 78 career single's wins, 78 career double's wins, and 156 combined wins.
Projected over a 4 year career Rola is on track to set a mark which potentially would last beyond the common era.
