Ohio State Men's Golf (Official Thread)

Here's hoping that Neil earns enough money/points to maintain his PGA playing card. Never forget that the US Open is designed to punish players that don't hit perfect shots. Anyway, we always talk about the college kids being drafted, and starting as rookies, which are few and far between, as the pro game and the college games are miles apart. Same with college/amateur golf. The pro game is many miles apart from the college game, as seen from the Open, many of the 'name' pros didn't make the cut. If you follow golf, you might have noted that several/many of the four-round scores are in the -20 to -25 (under par), but the Open was significantly lower (-7ish). Bit of a ramble, but for non-fanatic golfers, might not be a known fact.
I think he also has the challenge of seeing a lot of courses he has never played in competition. He will be more prepared for them next year.

Just sayin'; If he doesn't start playing better this year and he has to some extent.
Just sayin': His game must be picking up. After starting the season in making the cut in just 1 of 10 tournaments; he has now made the cut in 4 of his last 5 tournaments. In 2025 the US Open last place finisher got $41,785; which is the worst he can do. This Sunday he should get his biggest payday of the year so far.
He'll be back on the Korn Ferry Tour next year.

Kinda knew that, but wished/hoped he'd put some low numbers up and take home a big check/points. He did reasonably well on the Korn Ferry this year, with several wins, but more to the point, there he can hone his game. Never really thought much about the new courses he's played, but maybe after a practice round or two, can figure them out. But even so, watched the Nationwide last year on the Scarlet, and don't believe Neil did particularly well. And that's home cooking. Golf is a fickle game anyways.

Foul play suspected at University of Michigan golf course

https:%2F%2Fmedia.zenfs.com%2Fen%2Fusa_today_sports_golfweek_articles_635%2F3c160661f92a8a41f12107d676ecd949

It's the mystery of the week – who (or what) is fouling up the putting greens in Ann Arbor?

On the morning of Thursday, July 16, the University of Michigan Golf Course sent an email to the public about an "unexpected issue" with grass discoloration on its course. And though the email doesn't detail the extent of the problem, it takes a dark turn before asking for help.

"Over the last few days, we have experienced an unforeseen and highly unusual decline in the coloring of our putting surfaces," the email says. "Our grounds team is actively monitoring the situation and developing an action plan for moving forward.

"At this time, we suspect that foul play may be involved, and we are working closely with our partners at the Department of Public Safety to complete a full investigation."

In 2022, Golfweek ranked the track on its best campus courses list and the Detroit Free Press ranked U-M the No. 1 public course in metro Detroit golf, bringing some of The Masters to Michigan with the original design by famed English architect Alister MacKenzie.

We checked out the course Thursday afternoon, and all nine greens we saw on the front were affected; specifically the fringes were burned out, though pockets of greens were also quite brown. They still rolled decent, but prices for a round were slashed by the course due to the greens. Tee boxes and fairways remained lush.

U-M GC declined further comment due to the "active investigation," referring all requests to the Department of Public Safety.

U-M GC asked its community to share information on the situation if they have any – though if U-M needs some help with its greens, maybe it should ask the experts at Michigan State for help, specifically MSU's "Sultan of Sod" who is the World Cup turfgrass whisperer.

Just sayin': Fuck scUM and their golf course too.

Never realized that TSUN and tOSU shared Alistar Mckenzie designed golf courses. Has been my bucket list to play Donald Ross, Jack Nicklaus and AM courses whenever could. OK, take that one off my list, wouldn't pay or play up there. Maybe the grounds keeper, or greens superintendent is a secret Buckeye? At my course, if the greens superintendent loses a green, he would lose his job. That's why they hold incoming shots so well, he keeps them watered during our 108 degree days. But it is interesting that just the greens have browned up. Betcha someone loses their job over this one.....
