Ohio State Men's Golf (Official Thread)

Here's a fun story... years back a Hoban alumni wanted to make a $500K donation to Hoban's golf program but wanted a golf-specific facility involved. Hoban did not have one and they told the alum. They told the alum to build a facility with the ultra hi tech he wanted would be $2M. He wrote the check. It's one of, if not THE best golf facility in Ohio HS. Once again, Ohio HS Champs

Don't know Hoban area well, but our local country club hosts all three HS for their tournaments. We let them practice here, they usually practice after school, when most members are pounding them down in the clubhouse. In next city over, the four HS rotate, each year at their local CC, but there's a municipal facility where the other three play. That should have sufficed, unless this training facility would be physically located there, instead of HS grounds. Apropos of nothing at all. Just wondering how we can be adopted by Hoban out here.....

Buckeyes Cap Season by Winning National Golf Invitational

Ohio State men’s golf was looking to end the season on a high note, and it certainly did, winning the National Golf Invitational over the weekend at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz.

The Buckeyes went into the final round with a one-shot lead over Utah State and carded an 8-under 280 on Sunday to beat the Aggies by seven shots.

Sunday’s round was true team golf as big swings happened early. Utah State started hot and took an early lead. But then the Buckeyes flipped the lead at the end of the opening nine by playing holes seven and eight at 6-under par. They then held the lead the rest of the way.

Head coach Jay Moseley wanted his young team to finish the year strong and build momentum for next season. Sunday’s win was the Buckeyes’ third victory in the final four tournaments of the season. That’s in addition to a fifth-place finish at the 18-team Big Ten Championship.

Joe Wilson IV, who missed all of last season recovering from surgery, finished his year with the best tournament of his career. He posted three under-par rounds for the first time in his career, carding rounds of 70-67-71 to finish tied for third at 8-under par. He closed in style with a birdie on the 18th hole.

Freshman Timotej Formanek also finished his first season in the states with his best collegiate tournament. He too posted all three rounds under par at 70-69-70 to finished sixth at 7-under par. He made a pair of eagles over the three rounds.

Freshman Vaughn Harber birdied four of his final six holes to post a team-best 69 on Sunday. That capped a 5-under par event and gave him a seventh-place finish. Harber tied for the most birdies over the three rounds with 18.

Tyler Sabo posted rounds of 68-72-75 (-1) to notch his second under-par tournament of the season. Fellow sophomore Jack Vojtko finished with his best round of the weekend, carding a 2-under 70 on Sunday.

The Buckeyes led the field in both par-4 and par-5 scoring and made a combined 71 birdies over the three rounds. Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club will host an NCAA Regional next spring.
