Ohio State Men's Golf (Official Thread)

The Donald Ross 'plateaus' got him good on a couple of holes. These pros are very good at imparting spin on the ball, but the greens of Pinehurst #2 aren't having any of it. And, have watched innumerable chips go up the hill, and then back down. Putting seems to be slightly more effective, but haven't seen any 'gimme' putts left after the ball climbs onto the green. Shipley doubled two in a row like this. On the bright side, just learned (thru the BP pages) that Mr. Shipley drove the 3rd green, and was the first out of this deep field to do so. Had about a 20 foot put, but apparently missed. However, I for one, do like two putt birdies. Leaderboard said he was +4 after the third round. Hopefully he finishes in the standings as to receive an automatic invitation for next year's US Open. Go Buckeyes!

I do believe that Shipley will get an invite to the Masters next year as low amateur(?) Not entirely certain, but doesn't he also receive an automatic to US Open based up on his finish this year? also a question. And, read he's turning pro for next week's pro tournament. Sooooo, will his automatics still hold if he's a card carrying pro? Or rescinded because he's become a pay-for-pay person? Anyone help clear away the fog? I'm a bit fuzzy here. But always, pro Buckeyes. Go Bucks! Would be a great start to his career if he can/will get those invites.

Seems like we might have our heir apparent! Hopefully there's another four players that can ascend to this level. Very much liked seeing tOSU playing in the NCAA finals....new year, let's do it again! Want to see another number on the board on the entry to S&G course. The 1961 and 1976 (memory is fuzzy here) Nati's need a number starting with a "2" on it.....Go Bucks!

Wingate’s right about 1979, and the first Natty was In 1945.

In 1961, Nicklaus won the individual title, but Purdue (who hosted the event) won the team title.

Thanks guys. Was member there for 15 odd years, and passed by it every time I teed it up. But, time and change surely showed that the memory has cobwebs in it. Anyway, tOSU was so very close last year. Had the Auburn player not hit the stands with his chip, we'd be hoisting the trophy. There were two exceptional, and four very good players last year. Hard to get such an accumulation of talent in cold weather states. Usualy when we get back to C'bus to visit daughter, it's too cold/snowy to play. Have taken family to clubhouse for lunch, but instead of scruffy golfers hoisting a brew or two, there's a bunch of suits chowing down. PS, still keep on 'Save', where Jimmy Hainline played Scarlet, with Coach coaching their ball placement and putts. Great stuff. Go Bucks!

Will be back in C'bus over Thanksgiving. Want to take wife and daughter to Clubhouse for lunch. Does anyone know if I could sneak in to see what the new (since I've been gone - over 40 years) golf practice 'place'? Went into the pro shop last visit, and staff was distinctly cool, bordering on cold. Didn't buy anything (!). My OSU golf polo is wearing out....thanks in advance.
