Congrats to tOSU Men's Golf Team for winning the B10 Match Play tournament. (Or was that the B10's)? Saw some good play, consistent with what had been doing, plus some outstanding shots when needed. Thanks B10 channel for putting it on. PS, Bob Kepler was tOSU golf coach for many years, and the manager of the Scarlet & Gray golf course. He was a prickly guy, and gave my Dad a lot of grief because Dad wanted to get me out to play before the 2:00pm time for those under 14 (I think). Was a very tall 12 year old, and ended up being a member for 25 odd years. Want to come back and play the Scarlet (and the Gray) course one last time (have lived in Cali for 40 years), parents passed away 14 years ago, so occasion to get back to C'bus not so good. Anyway, daughter will be applying for MBA at Fisher for next September, so mayhaps will get a chance to play again. Do I get to check off two boxes if play Scarlet, as it was designed by Alistar McKenzie, but major modified by Jack Nicklaus? Go Bucks
Former Buckeye All-American Bo Hoag clinches first PGA Tour card with win in Portland
Former Buckeye and Upper Arlington native Bo Hoag has reached a milestone he's been chasing for nine years.
Hoag shot a final-round 65 to take home his first title at the Portland Open. With the win, Hoag earns a spot in The 25, joining 24 other graduates on Sunday evening in securing 2019-20 PGA TOUR membership.
“Life-changer," Hoag told GolfChannel.com after the win. "You know what’s at stake on a day like today and your mind drifts to it a little bit,” said Hoag, who set the tournament record at 22 under. “You picture what you’re going to be doing after your round.either back here getting a card on this green or packing your car up to go home. I just told myself I wasn’t going to leave here this evening without getting a card on this green. Great day.”
Former Ohio State golfer Bo Hoag played well at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin last weekend. He placed tied for 13th in that tournament, his best finish of the year.
Hoag then played in a 36-hole qualifying event for the US Open on Monday at Springfield Country Club. He shot five-under par on the second 18 holes, finishing the day in a tie for second place. That earned him a spot in the US Open, which will be held at Torrey Pines from June 17-20.
The Ohio State men’s golf team has earned an at-large berth and will host an NCAA Regional later this month. The Columbus Regional will be played on May 16-18 on the Scarlet Course at the OSU Golf Club.
The top five teams and top individual not on a qualifying team at each of the six regionals will advance to the NCAA Championships at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., on May 27-June 1.
Ohio State is the No. 6-seed in the 13-team regional. The Buckeyes have qualified for a regional for the third consecutive season and for the fourth time under head coach Jay Moseley. Last season, the team finished sixth at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional, just two shots away from qualifying for the NCAA Championship.
The Ohio State men’s golf team completed their season in Scottsdale, Arizona at the Grayhawk Golf Club for the 2022 NCAA Championships. For the Championships, there was a three-day and 54 hole cut. Even though the Buckeyes carded their lowest score on the third day, they missed the cut as a team.
The Buckeyes carded scores of 300, 300 and 293 on their three days to fall out of contention. Ohio State finished 23rd out of 30 teams that qualified, and the cut was established at 15 teams for the fourth and final day.
Even though the Buckeyes missed the cut as a team, the future is bright for the golf team, as they were led by two sophomores and a junior. Sophomore Adam Wallin carded the best score for the Buckeyes at 10-over par and three-day scores of 74, 73 and 73, with the Grayhawk course being a par 70. Wallin finished tied for 55th individually.
The other stellar sophomore for the Buckeyes is Maxwell Moldovan, who finished tied for 62nd with a three-day score of 71-76-74, for a score of 11-over par. Moldovan also recently qualified for the U.S. Open next week at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts from the Springfield Regional after finishing 5-under par and in a tie for third.
Wrapping up the top five for the Ohio State men’s golf team was Jackson Chandler, who finished tied for 94th with scores of 76-75-74, Patrick Schmucking, who finished tied for 124th with scores of 79-79-72, and JonErik Alford finished in 140th place with scores of 80-76-79.
