Game Thread Ohio State @ Iowa, 11/04/17 @ 3:30 (ESPN)

I just watched the PSU vs. Iowa game again to get a better idea of what Iowa likes to do on offense. They literally had 2 drives in the entire game that went anywhere and a long TD catch and run by Wadley, when he slipped out of the backfield behind a blitzing PSU LB and the safety got caught out of position. Penn St. was in their backfield a lot in the run game and made Stanley get rid of it sooner than he'd like to on almost every passing play. Never looked comfortable in the pocket the entire game. That must happen again on Saturday.

Bucks do need to be aware of getting up the field too fast on the pass rush though and leaving gaping holes and cutback lanes for Wadley to run through. PSU got gashed a few times like that. Wadley runs really hard, is a load, and hits the hole with a purpose. DB's need to be a physical presence in the run game this weekend. PSU dominated the 1st half but made a costly mistake (INT) at the end of the half to allow Iowa back in the game or the pedsters could have won that one by a few scores. McSorely wasn't particularly sharp that night.

Our WR's need to protect the ball after contact. Their DB's will come up and hit ya. Don't think they can score with us if we spread them out and our playmakers continue to make plays and JT hits them in stride like they have been doing the past month plus. I also think spreading them out and show-casing JK Dobbins in the run game will be a huge key to keeping the chains moving. So make them go the entire length of the field, we score TD's and hold them to FG's.

Their KO return guy hits the hole hard and they have some tough guys on that unit so the Buckeye KO team better buckle up their chin straps and had better clean that unit up. We don't need a repeat of last week.

On defense, typical Iowa team, like Urban eluded to earlier in the week; Jewell is all over the field. DB's are physical and tackle well. They didn't give up any huge plays with Barkley catching the ball out of the backfield but PSU did have a lot of success in chunks getting the ball to Barkley in the flats. So curious to see if the staff attacks the horizontal passing game again this week (hopefully not too much of it)

Keep doing what they are doing. 31-16 Bucks. I expect a tough road win.

What this does is give Iowa players some additional motivation to play for the kuds. Ohio State should visit the kids briefly. It's a good thing to do for the kids and it takes that away.

I can smell a blowout on the horizon. Urban knows he needs some statement wins to close the season, especially against game opponents. I can see Iowa staying in the game for the 1st half, but just not having the thoroughbreds to stay competitive for the entire game. And I don't see Wilson and Meyer taking their foots off the gas. I can see a win by 3TDs, even though its in Kinnick. But we have a team hitting their stride at the perfect time, and also a team so deep at almost every position, that fatigue shouldn't be a problem. I see a healthy dose of JK and Weber setting up JT to pick apart their DBs by spreading it to the Zone 6.

After re-watching that Iowa-Ped St. game myself, and watching the OSU-Ped St. game, I feel very confident. Wadley doesn't provide the versatility and game changing talent that Barkley had, and we shut Barkley down outside of one long run. I just don't see Wadley being a huge factor, so that leave Stanley against our suspect DBs. I hope they continue to improve, but they're still a bend don't break bunch. The DL will yet again be the difference and have to set the tone. Special teams and penalties need to be shored up, or Iowa will force themselves to stay in the game based on our miscues and could cost them the game. If the KO team can stop shooting themselves in the foot and help with field position, I can see a beating

I know your post was focused on our defense vs. their offense, but the bolded portions of your quote also work for the other side, our offense vs. their defense. The Pedster defense was gassed from early in the fourth quarter until the end. There's no doubt that when we got the ball after the Pedsters turned it over on downs with about 1:20 left, we could've scored again without much trouble. Seeing as the Pedster defense was tops in the country gong into The Shoe and our offense rolled up almost 530 yards against them, despite losing two fumbles at midfield, we should roll through Iowa's defense like a hot knife through warm butter...

Exactly my point. You agree it's not something to freak out about, so why has everyone been freaking out about it all season?

You do realize how ridiculous you sound, right? Your “point” is absolutely absurd and just plain wrong. I’m not sure what you are trying to accomplish. You aren’t winning anyone over (cue the “I don’t care if anyone likes what I have to say...”). Admit you are wrong and move on.
