i dont agree so much, you can beat a zone by dribble drive, kick and shot. you dominate a zone with interior passing...

If you have a passing big man, maybe. This team does not have that right now. Columbia had three perimeter guys outside the arch at all times. There's no zone busting when the only open three you have is an NBA 3-pointer. You've got to collapse that zone with dribble penetration if you want that open 3. Only Lighty brought that to the table the other day.

I did notice on one interesting play where Dallas and Twigs set some screens near the perimeter against the zone to free up Butler. But it was still a long 3-point attempt.

i disagree. if you dribble into the teeth of my zone good luck...

lots of ways to take advantage of it, the one common misconception you see is "shooting" a team out of a zone. you can do that, though if you can get a man in the high post, short corner, etc in the interior of the zone collapse from the inside out, create sag on the perm guys will get open looks. college players can bury open looks game over.

also columbia played a 1 2 2 cuse will be in a 23...

You don't have to dribble into the "teeth" so to speak. If the wing player attacks the gap, especially against a 2-3, you're going to have an open man either at the top of the key or on the other wing. It's not even about getting into the painted area. If the other perimeter defender bites even for a second, they've just left a good college player open for the 3 ball. All you have to do is sink the shot at that point.

Against 'Cuse, that might be more difficult because they have the athletes to stay disciplined on the perimeter. But against Columbia, those guys have no choice but collapse on quicker players.

I'd agree with your solution if I had more confidence in Koufos as any kind of proficient passer.

i wouldnt be surprised to see lighty in a short wing or high post

its hard to tell, matta has a lot of interesting pieces. his ability to get the piece to work together is key

I expect to see both teams in zone for most of the game on defense...

I really believe that we will start to see the high low game with Hunter and KK, and we will see some of Lighty at the high post as well, like we were seeing against Columbia...

I am really hoping to see Diebler knock down some shots...I think it could also help him if he could get an easy basket or two in transistion or just by beating his guy off the dribble, to get him calmed down a little...

The players and coaches are very excited for this game...

I think a lot will depend on the play of KK and Lighty. KK in how he handles the zone and the double team . It would be great to see him kick the ball out to the open man as that would display his game vision.
Lighty will have to have the drive and leadership on the offensive side of the ball.
If those two do that then we should win.

While I agree with all this, I think the thing that we are really going to need to do is control the perimeter both on offense and defense...

We need to shoot well and hold them down from shooting well...

Also need to keep them off the boards...

I think it is short and simple. They do not have a ton of leadership. Devendorf, I believe, is their best experienced player. Jamar Butler's leadership will be crucial. If he handles the ball well and controls the tempo of the game, then I feel fairly confident saying that OSU will win.

Now that football's over I need to get caught up on basketball. I havent paid much attention to the rankings. Do you guys think we'll be ranked if we beat 'cuse or do we need to win the whole tourney?

also, thanks to those that pointed out to me that there is a consolation game. i was not aware of that. i will definitely get to watch the bucks on friday so i'm pumped for that.

I would think with a win over Cuse' we might move into the top 25, but if we were to lose the finals then, depending on how we played they might not be ready to put us in the top 25...I think the pollsters are going to hold losing to Findaly against us for awhile, but in reality we didn't treat that game like a real game situation...

Weds Butler, Lighty, and Koufas will lead the team over the Redmen.
Take it to the bank. These three will carry the load for a few games while the others get up to speed. I wouldn't worry about any ranking until we work our way up to the top 5 or 10. The team needs PT to improve.
Go BUcks!
