By Bob Baptist

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Both had a chance to play in the Carrier Dome, in that sea of Syracuse orange, for a Hall of Fame coach in Jim Boeheim whose program had won a national championship as recently as 2003.

"Great program, the coaches are great, the facilities are great," Dallas Lauderdale said.

"But Ohio State also has some things to offer."

Better weather, for one.

"Once I told them it snows like 12 feet up there... ," OSU men's basketball coach Thad Matta joked without finishing the thought.

Ohio State vs. No. 21 Syracuse

Wednesday, November 21, 2007

Ohio State vs. No. 21 Syracuse
Tipoff: 9 p.m. at Madison Square Garden.
TV/radio: ESPN2; WKNR AM/850.
Notable: Two Buckeyes, freshman Dallas Lauderdale and sophomore David Lighty, strongly considered Syracuse before coming to Columbus, OSU coach Thad Matta joking that he reminded the players that "it snows like 12 feet up there." Ohio State won't be traveling to Syracuse, but in New York City for this NIT Season Tip-Off semifinal, OSU is clearly the visitor. Both teams are starting two freshmen, the Orange also feeling their way with guard Jonny Flynn and forward Donte Greene, a player the Buckeyes looked at. The winner advances to the NIT final.
Next for OSU: vs. Texas A&M or Washington, Friday, 6 p.m. or 9 p.m.

The team kicked off its season and this tournament with a 91-68 triumph over Wisconsin-Green Bay before posting a 68-54 triumph over Columbia in the regional finals on November 13th. Prior to those two wins, OSU had gone 0-2 in its previous two appearances in this event.

Orange cracks Top 25 as young team prepares for Ohio State

John Kekis
The Associated Press

(November 21, 2007) ? SYRACUSE ? The basketball season has barely begun, and Syracuse already has attracted attention.

After wins over Siena, Saint Joseph's and Fordham, the unbeaten Orange made it into the Top 25 this week at No. 21 as they prepare to face Ohio State (2-0) in the semifinals of the NIT Season Tip-off tonight. "We got a lot out of this week," freshman point guard Jonny Flynn said after Friday night's victory over Fordham. "We played together. You have to know how to rest your body, you really see the importance of eating healthy. So now, when we go to Madison Square Garden and play back-to-back games and at a high level of competition, we've already been through that."

the Bucks are not THAT young... I mean, people are talking about 'em like they are ALL true freshmen.

Butler and Lighty will give us the mature calming influence the nebwies need. Koufos played international ball last summer. Hunter has been there, Terwilliger... yes MSG is a big venue, but so is the National Championship game.

Seven months ago, Syracuse was sitting at home watching the Bucks play Florida.

My only other thought, heard Tirico and someone talking about syracuse "the most athletic team" Jim Boheim has ever had ---- I'm just wondering if that means they have guys that are crazy athletes (wicked awesome) who will hurtle themselves down the court at incredible speed..... but turn the ball over, commit stupid fouls, etc.

I think this is a toss up game.

I'd sure love to see tOSU come out of this tourney with a top 25 ranking.

Go Bucks!

The talk about being young is coming from the fact that Diebler, KK, and Turner are all getting big minutes...

That going along with the fact that while Butler is a seasoned vet, and Hunter, Lighty, and Twig all got minutes last season, there is still only 1 returning starter...

We are not as young as Cuse', but I just think young is the term thrown out there now a days for teams that have a new team coming together through newcomers and losing a bunch of guys that will improve once they get time playing together...
