Huge shot by lewis.
Good thing the ref missed Butler stepping out w/ 1.8 to go :p
A few observations:
1. After being pretty great the whole game, the refs completely swallowed their whistles in the last two minutes. I didn't mind the no-calls when Lofton drove twice; calling a charge in that late-game situation is pretty rare. However, on the last play the Tennessee player CLEARLY traveled on his way to the basket, then Butler CLEARLY stepped out of bounds with about 2 seconds to go. I also thought that Ivan Harris got raped on that FT rebound where the ball got knocked off his foot. It's like the refs stopped watching the game.
2. Lewis shoots the ball great inside of about 2 minutes. But in the remaining 38 minutes, he's looked completely lost since the UNC game. Without Lewis we get creamed at UNC, but since then, he's been really disappointing; not just shooting the ball, but the turnovers, the poor defense, etc.
3. I get nervous when the ball's not in Conley's hands right now. That includes Butler, who is still struggling to adjust to not bringing the ball up the court on every play.
4. Good thing we have Oden to lob the ball to; it seemed like outside of that we had absolutely no press break. Couple that with the lackadaisical OOB passes and cuts at times, and we looked pretty awful breaking the pressure.
5. When Cook isn't scoring he disappears.
6. Oden's ceiling is unlimited. I thought the Wisconsin game made him mad, and he showed increased aggression at times throughout this game. He also passed the ball better out of the post. He needs to be a little less deliberate at times (like when he got his pocket picked late in the game), but he's really coming along and hopefully getting the cast off will make him even better.
This was a huge win today. But this game shouldn't have been so close. Tennessee had no real answer for Oden, they shot terribly from 3, and we still needed a last second shot to beat them. Granted, we didn't shoot well either but that seems to be a disturbing trend lately, not an abberation. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but right now we are simply not a top ten team.
